Screen Time & Eye Damage - Truth vs Myth!

Are screens really damaging your eyes permanently?
Let’s separate facts from fiction.

Myth: Screens permanently damage your eyes
Truth: Screen use does NOT directly damage the retina But it can cause digital eye strain and discomfort.

Myth: Blue light from screens causes blindness
Truth: Current evidence shows no proven link between screen blue light and permanent retinal damage. However, it may affect sleep patterns.

Myth: Only long hours affect your eyes
Truth: Even short screen use can cause:

• Eye strain
• Dry eyes (reduced blinking)
• Headaches

Especially with poor habits.

The Real Problems:

Screen overuse can lead to:

• Digital Eye Strain
• Dry eye syndrome
• Blurred vision
• Difficulty focusing

These are temporary but uncomfortable.

How to Protect Your Eyes:

• Follow the 20-20-20 rule
• Blink frequently
• Maintain proper screen distance
• Use good lighting
• Limit screen time before sleep

Retina Specialist Advice:

Screens may not damage your retina directly, but poor habits can affect your eye health.
If you have persistent eye strain or vision changes, consult a Retina Specialist.

What Happens to the Retina in Diabetes?

Understanding how high blood sugar can silently affect your vision.

The Retina: Why It Matters:

The retina is a delicate layer of nerve tissue at the back of the eye.
It captures light and sends visual signals to the brain — allowing you to see clearly and sharply.
For healthy vision, the retina needs a steady supply of oxygen and nutrients through tiny blood vessels.

The Impact of Diabetes:

When blood sugar remains high for a long time, it can damage the small blood vessels of the retina.
These vessels may become weak, swollen, or blocked, affecting the retina’s normal function.
This condition is known as Diabetic Retinopathy.

What Changes Occur in the Retina?

As the condition progresses:

• Blood vessels may leak fluid or blood
• The retina may develop swelling (macular edema)
• Fragile abnormal vessels may grow on the retina

Without timely care, these changes can lead to vision loss.

The Silent Risk:

Diabetic retinopathy often develops without noticeable symptoms in the early stages.
Many people only realize the problem when vision becomes blurred or distorted.
Regular eye examinations are the best way to detect these changes early.

Protecting Your Vision:

Protecting your eyesight starts with controlling diabetes.

Healthy habits include:

✔ Good blood sugar control
✔ Managing blood pressure and cholesterol
✔ Routine retina examinations
✔ Early treatment when needed

Early care can prevent serious vision problems.

If you have diabetes, your eyes need regular attention.

Even if your vision seems normal, retinal changes may already be developing.
Schedule your retinal examination and safeguard your vision for the future.

March is Workplace Eye Wellness Month 👁️

Protecting your eyes at work is essential for maintaining clear vision, productivity, and long-term eye health.

This month is a reminder to prioritize your eye health while working.

Why Workplace Eye Care Matters:

Many people spend 6–10 hours daily on digital screens at work.

Prolonged screen use can cause:

• Eye strain
• Dry or irritated eyes
• Headaches
• Blurred vision
• Neck and shoulder pain

Taking care of your eyes helps maintain comfort and productivity.

Follow the 20-20-20 Rule:

One of the easiest ways to reduce eye strain is the 20-20-20 rule.
Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.
This simple habit helps your eye muscles relax and refocus, reducing digital eye fatigue.

Adjust Your Screen Setup

A proper workstation setup can protect your eyes.

• Keep your screen 20–28 inches away
• Position the screen slightly below eye level
• Adjust brightness and contrast
• Reduce glare from lights or windows

Good ergonomics supports both eye and posture health.

Remember to Blink & Stay Hydrated:

When using digital screens, we tend to blink less frequently, which can cause dryness.

Helpful tips:

• Blink more often
• Use lubricating eye drops if needed
• Stay hydrated
• Take short breaks during long work sessions

Healthy habits keep your eyes comfortable throughout the day.

Don’t Skip Regular Eye Exams:

Regular eye checkups are important for people who work on screens daily.

Eye examinations can help detect:

• Vision problems
• Dry eye syndrome
• Early retinal conditions
• Digital eye strain

Early detection helps protect long-term vision.

Take Care of Your Eyes at Work.

Small daily habits can make a big difference in maintaining healthy vision and eye comfort.

If you experience persistent eye strain, dryness, headaches, or blurred vision, consult your eye specialist.

Book your comprehensive eye check-up today.

Why Regular Eye Exams Matter for Diabetic Patients

Diabetes & Your Eyes:

• Diabetes can damage the tiny blood vessels of the retina.
• This damage often starts silently, without pain or early symptoms.

No Symptoms Doesn’t Mean No Damage:

• Most diabetic eye problems begin before vision is affected.
• By the time vision reduces, damage may already be advanced.

What a Regular Eye Exam Detects:

A comprehensive eye exam can identify:
• Early diabetic retinopathy
• Macular swelling (DME)
• Risk of vision loss

Early detection = better outcomes

How Often Should Diabetics Get Checked?
• At least once a year
• More frequently if eye changes are detected
• During pregnancy (for diabetic women)

Regular monitoring protects long-term vision.

Early Care Saves Sight:

Timely treatment can:
• Prevent vision loss
• Slow disease progression
• Reduce the need for complex procedures

Vision once lost cannot always be restored.

If you have diabetes, make eye exams a priority.
Don’t wait for blurred vision to act. Book your diabetic eye screening today

How Hazardous AQI Levels Are Threatening Eye Health
Your eyes are the first to feel polluted air.

What Is AQI?

AQI measures how polluted the air is.
When AQI is poor to hazardous, tiny toxic particles irritate and damage the eyes.

Common Eye Problems:

High AQI can cause..

• Redness & burning
• Dry, itchy eyes
• Excess watering
• Blurred or fluctuating vision

Impact on Retina:

Air pollution increases oxidative stress, which may worsen:

• Diabetic eye disease
• Retinal inflammation
• Age-related retinal damage

Who Is Most at Risk?

• Children & elderly
• Diabetics
• Dry eye sufferers
• People with retinal disorders
• Outdoor workers

Protect Your Eyes:

• Wear protective glasses outdoors
• Avoid peak pollution hours
• Use lubricating eye drops
• Stay hydrated
• Keep indoor air clean

Retina Specialist’s Advice:

Your eyes breathe the same polluted air you do.
If irritation, dryness, or vision changes persist, don’t ignore them.

Protect your vision with regular eye check-ups.
Clear air. Clear vision.
