Dr. Abhishek Shukla, Senior Geriatrician at Aastha Geriatric Hospital, Lucknow, explains why blood pressure rises in winter:

Cold weather prompts the body to constrict blood vessels (vasoconstriction) to conserve heat, increasing resistance to blood flow and forcing the heart to pump harder. This raises pressure significantly. Blood volume often expands to compensate for restricted circulation, adding extra stress on the cardiovascular system. Stress hormones like adrenaline surge in response to cold, speeding up heart rate and further tightening vessels.
