The Cormorant Dilemma — A Psychological Perspective :--
♧ A cormorant dives into the water to catch a fish.
For the cormorant, it is survival.
For the fisherman watching from the shore, it may be competition.
♧ The same action… two completely different interpretations.
♧ And this happens in human relationships all the time.
♧ We often judge people not by why they did something, but by how their actions affected us.
♧ What looks like arrogance to one person may be confidence to another.
What looks like selfishness may actually be self-preservation
♧ What looks like interference may, from another perspective, be concern.
■■ The psychological dilemma is simple:--
" We see our own intentions clearly, but we see other people's intentions through the lens of our emotions" .
■■ Before deciding that someone is wrong, perhaps we should ask:--
“Am I judging their intention—or merely reacting to their action?”
♧ Sometimes the person sitting opposite you isn't your enemy.
■■ They may simply be another “cormorant” trying to survive in the same pond.
"Perspective changes everything".
