What the guru gives to the disciple is not teaching, is not words. It is also that. But the real thing he gives is consciousness. You cannot get out of ego with ego. You have to attune yourself to his consciousness. That gives you the understanding of the delusion of ego and the reality of God. So this is the need for a guru.
