TAVI: A Less Invasive Approach to Heart Valve Replacement

For some patients with severe aortic valve stenosis, TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) offers a minimally invasive alternative to traditional open-heart valve replacement. During TAVI, a new valve is delivered through a catheter, usually via a blood vessel, and positioned inside the diseased aortic valve to help improve blood flow.

For appropriately selected patients, TAVI may help reduce symptoms such as breathlessness, fatigue, chest discomfort, and reduced exercise tolerance, while potentially offering a shorter recovery compared with traditional surgery.
