Dear friends ... for those who know Uma Sanjeevani, as also those of you, who know a little less about us (Uma Sanjeevani), it seems the appropriate time, to throw a little light on our smart little logo, missed by a few, but observed & taken for granted as an incognito mark by most others ...
Uma Sanjeevani Health Centre, situated at 1, Dakshin Marg, DLF City-2, a landmark location from the early 90's (a time, many latter day settlers may not know, when medicare in Gurgaon was practically non-existent), started as an orthopaedic clinic with a single orthopaedic chamber, mobile x-ray unit, physiotherapy room, small path-lab, an Operation theatre, a small waiting room, and a back-yard with temporary asbestos sheets for cover, and a few beds for day-care, and on occasion night stay for the operated and more serious patients. We also kept a Maruti gypsy ambulance to transport the more serious patients to government hospitals or bigger set-ups.
The clinic was named 'Uma Sanjeevani Health Centre', a private limited company with 6 directors, all family members. As was wont, I had specialized in Arthroscopic Surgery of the Knee after my training of 1 and a half year in Paris, France (1986-7), and again in 1990, from Massacheusetts General Hospital, in Boston, USA, and was a pioneer in the field, with not many people knowing much about it. The logo, I would take pains in explaining to my visiting patients, was a drawing representing a knee & an instrument called an arthroscope, used for minimal invasive surgery of the knee, through a key hole, and microsurgery was possible using micro-scissors & micro-forceps, shavers and a variety of cutters used through other portals or key-holes.
I would explain, how, damaged knee ligaments & meniscal tissues could be treated surgically under direct vision though the scope which was transmitted to a screen using a camera attached to the arthroscope ... all this was possible at a much earlier stage before severe damage could set in ... ensuring prevention of arthritis, and an early return to normalcy ...
Soon after followed phase one of Uma Sanjeevani's growth as a multidisciplinary polyclinic, an episode interestingly triggered by the occurance of a couple of instances where absence of qualified nurses and critical care mattered, and had a deep impact on our direction of growth. From being a single speciality centre, safe practice took precedence and not only was multispeciality practice encouraged, we also took steps to ensure high quality, ethical care with devotion to ensure all patients complete satisfaction.
Soon we were short of space, as our core team which exists till date had formed, including medical, surgical, gynaecological, paediatric, dermatology besides orthopaedic & arthroscopic surgery ...
New establishments were coming up in the vicinity, as population moved in, and it was time to spread our wings anyway. The second phase followed soon, and we built up a 25 bed nursing home in 1995, which exists in the current state ... Uma Sanjeevani was the uncrowned young queen of New Gurgaon, with its motto "Quality Health Care with Dedication" ... academic excellence, good ethical treatment, and knowing our limits were our high points ...
Our logo remained and continued to imply what it was intended to be ... a symbol of excellence, high quality, minimum intervention, best results and early rehabilitation ...
Today, we have two Uma Sanjeevani hospitals, including a new one in Sector 55. Our logo retains its original meaning as well as its deeper implication ... Arthroscopic surgery has grown in leaps & bounds ... we are also keeping tune with the changing times ... Superspeciality & subspeciality growth are the flavor of the times ... Phase three of Uma Sanjeevani's story has begun, and we are taking wings once more to a bigger wider horizon .... !!!
