Which Urinary Symptoms Are Not Normal?

As a urologist, I often meet patients who ignore early urinary symptoms, assuming they are “normal” or temporary. But the truth is—your body gives clear warning signs when something isn’t right.

Symptoms like frequent urination, burning sensation, urgency, waking up multiple times at night to urinate, or seeing blood in urine are not normal and should never be ignored. These could be signs of underlying conditions such as urinary tract infections, kidney stones, prostate enlargement, bladder issues, or even more serious concerns if left untreated.

Many people delay seeking help due to hesitation or lack of awareness, which can worsen the condition and make treatment more complicated. Early diagnosis not only helps in faster recovery but can also prevent long-term complications.

If you’re experiencing any unusual urinary changes, it’s important to consult a urologist and get the right evaluation done. Remember, timely action can protect your kidney and bladder health.

Why You Wake Up Tired Despite Sleeping for 8 Hours?

As a urologist, many patients come to me complaining of persistent tiredness despite getting 7–8 hours of sleep. The problem is not always the duration of sleep—but the quality and underlying health issues affecting your body.
If you’re waking up feeling exhausted, your body could be signaling something deeper.
In this video, I explain why this happens and when you should take it seriously.
We begin by addressing the common assumption that more sleep equals better rest—but that’s not always true. Poor sleep quality, frequent awakenings, and underlying medical conditions can leave you feeling drained.
One major but often ignored reason is frequent urination at night (nocturia), which repeatedly disturbs your sleep cycle. Even if you don’t fully wake up, your sleep gets fragmented.
Another important cause is sleep disorders like sleep apnea, where breathing interruptions reduce oxygen supply and prevent deep restorative sleep.
Lifestyle factors also play a big role—late-night screen time, stress, caffeine intake, and irregular sleep schedules can all impact how refreshed you feel in the morning.
In some cases, this fatigue could be linked to metabolic issues, dehydration, or even early signs of kidney-related concerns, especially if associated with urinary symptoms.

Remember: Good sleep is not just about hours—it’s about uninterrupted, quality rest.

S*x Life After Prostate Surgery?

As a urologist, one of the most common and sensitive questions I get from patients undergoing prostate surgery is about their s*xual function.
Let me be very clear—prostate surgery does not mean the end of your s*x life, but recovery varies from person to person.

After procedures like prostate removal or cancer surgery, the nerves responsible for erections can be temporarily affected. This may lead to erectile dysfunction, reduced firmness, or changes in ej*******on. However, with modern nerve-sparing techniques and proper rehabilitation, many men regain function over time.

Recovery depends on factors like age, pre-surgery s*xual health, type of surgery, and post-operative care. Treatments such as medications, vacuum devices, injections, and pe**le rehabilitation programs play a crucial role in improving outcomes.

What’s important is early guidance, realistic expectations, and timely intervention.
In this reel, I explain when to expect recovery, what changes are normal, and how you can actively work towards improving s*xual function after prostate surgery.

As a urologist, many patients come back even after treatment with one common complaint — “Doctor, I still feel like my bladder is not emptying completely.”

The good news is: after proper treatment (whether for prostate enlargement, infection, or bladder dysfunction), easy and complete bladder emptying is achievable—but only if you follow the right approach.
Incomplete bladder emptying can lead to discomfort, frequent urination, infections, and even long-term complications if ignored.

In this video, I explain how your bladder function improves after treatment and what you can do to support smooth and complete emptying. Simple changes in your urination habits, posture, and lifestyle can make a significant difference.

Your Urine Color is Warning You About Kidney Stones!

As a urologist, one of the simplest yet most ignored indicators of kidney health is the color of your urine. Many patients come to me with kidney stones at a later stage, but their body had already been giving early warning signs.

Urine color can tell you a lot about hydration levels, mineral concentration, and the risk of stone formation.

Clear to light yellow urine usually indicates good hydration and a lower risk of stone formation. However, as the color becomes darker—yellow, amber, or even orange—it often reflects dehydration. Concentrated urine increases the chances of crystal formation, which is the first step toward kidney stones.
Cloudy urine may suggest infection or presence of crystals. Pink or red urine can indicate blood, which may occur due to stones irritating the urinary tract. Even strong-smelling urine can be a subtle sign of concentrated waste products.

Ignoring these changes can lead to stone formation, pain, infection, or even kidney damage.

In this reel, I’ve explained how different urine colors relate to kidney stone risk and when you should take action.

Painkillers Not Working, You Might Need to upgrade treatment!

As a urologist, I often meet patients who continue taking painkillers hoping their symptoms will resolve—but persistent pain that does not respond to medication is a serious warning sign.

Painkillers only suppress symptoms. They do NOT treat the underlying cause. If your pain keeps coming back or doesn’t improve, it may indicate a deeper problem that requires medical or even surgical intervention.
In many urological conditions like kidney stones, urinary obstruction, or infections, ignoring persistent pain can lead to worsening damage, infections, and complications.

Pain that doesn’t respond to medicines should never be ignored. Early diagnosis and timely treatment can prevent long-term damage and avoid emergency situations.

As a Urologist, one of the most dangerous situations I see is when a kidney stone gets stuck and patients keep waiting for it to pass naturally. A moving stone causes pain—but a stuck stone causes damage.

When the stone blocks the urinary passage, urine cannot flow properly. This leads to pressure build-up inside the kidney, causing swelling (hydronephrosis), infection, and eventually permanent kidney damage if ignored.

Many patients think: “Pain kam ho gaya, matlab problem theek ho gayi.”
That’s a myth. Sometimes reduced pain actually means the kidney is losing function silently.

Remember: A stuck stone is not just painful—it can be dangerous. Early diagnosis and timely treatment can save your kidney.

This ONE Mistake Can Cost You a Kidney! Don’t Ignore These Warning Signs

In this video, we’re discussing a very common but dangerous mistake that many patients make — ignoring early symptoms of kidney stones or urinary problems.

What seems like mild pain, burning urine, or occasional discomfort can silently progress and permanently damage your kidney.

The biggest mistake?
Delaying diagnosis and depending only on temporary relief treatments without proper medical evaluation.

By the time patients come to us, the kidney may already be under stress — or worse, partially damaged.

Small vs Large Kidney Stones - When RIRS Works and When PCNL Is Better?

Kidney stones are one of the most painful urological conditions, but the treatment depends greatly on the size, location, and hardness of the stone. In this informative reel, Dr Sumit Sharma, Urologist, explains the difference between RIRS (Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery) and PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy) and why stone size plays a crucial role in deciding the right procedure.

Many patients ask whether laser surgery through RIRS is always better or if PCNL is necessary for larger stones. The truth is that choosing the correct procedure ensures complete stone removal, faster recovery, and lower recurrence risk.
