There are days in the operating room that remind us just how far ophthalmology has come.
This morning, as I looked at the OT list, I couldn't help but smile. Three of the most premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) - Tecnis Odyssey, Tecnis PureSee Toric, and Tecnis Eyhance Toric - were lined up for implantation in three different patients on the same day.
What makes this especially exciting is that each lens was chosen not because it was the "best" lens, but because it was the best lens for that particular patient.
Every eye is different. Every visual need is different. Every lifestyle is different. The art and science of modern cataract surgery lie in understanding these expectations and matching them with the most suitable technology.
Today, the boundaries between cataract surgery and refractive surgery are increasingly blurring. We are no longer merely removing a cloudy lens; we are striving to optimize vision, improve quality of life, and help patients see the world in a way that aligns with their personal needs and aspirations.
As surgeons, there is immense satisfaction in being able to offer a range of advanced technologies and tailor treatment to each individual. But none of this is possible without trust.
My heartfelt gratitude to all the patients who entrusted us with something incredibly precious - their vision. Your faith in us is both a privilege and a responsibility that we never take lightly.
I would also like to sincerely thank the entire team at Eye-Q Hospital, Bhiwani. Successful outcomes are never the work of one person alone. They are the result of a coordinated effort by dedicated counsellors, efficient managers, meticulous OT assistants, nursing staff, and every team member working behind the scenes.
A special note of gratitude to my colleague, Dr. Shanti Priya, whose support and collaboration continue to make these journeys rewarding.
Days like these reaffirm why ophthalmology remains such a fascinating field, where technology, precision, and human trust come together to transform lives, one eye at a time.
