# # # Ovarian Cyst Symptoms You Shouldn’t Ignore 🌸

Ovarian cysts are common and may not always cause noticeable symptoms. However, when symptoms appear, it’s important to understand what your body may be telling you.

Watch out for symptoms such as:

🔹 Lower abdominal or pelvic pain
🔹 Bloating or a feeling of heaviness
🔹 Frequent urination
🔹 Changes in your menstrual pattern
🔹 Difficulty getting pregnant

These symptoms can have several possible causes, so proper evaluation is important rather than self-diagnosing.

Visited IRCAAD at Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences, Indore, and got a hands-on demo with the Toumai MedBot. Already working on Da vinci platform and standing next to that surgical robot and trying out its controls was equal parts humbling and thrilling — a real glimpse into how technology is changing medicine. Grateful to the team for the walkthrough and excited about the possibilities robotic surgery brings for precision, shorter recovery, and better outcomes. Can’t wait to explore more in this space.

Chad is a landlocked nation in Central Africa. Known as the "Dead Heart of Africa" because it is entirely landlocked and sits far from the ocean.
Despite becoming an oil-producing country in 2003, it remains one of the world's least developed nations, facing high levels of poverty, food insecurity, and infrastructure challenges.
Cervical cancer is the second most frequent cancer among women in Chad, and sub-Saharan Africa suffers from the highest cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates globally. Nearly all of these cases are caused by high-risk strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV).
Approximately 890 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year in Chad and it claims the lives of roughly 650 Chadian women annually.
The World Health Organization (WHO) notes that it remains the leading cause of cancer deaths for women across 26 to 29 African nations.
Most cases are caught at highly advanced clinical stages. The nation experiences a crippling shortage of oncology units and radiotherapy machines, rendering advanced palliative or curative care inaccessible to most.

Recently operated on a patient of mine from Chad with cervical cancer. Though there was language barrier but I must say there is something special about doctor patient bond. They always understand each others emotions through humble gestures. When I met her daughter after performing the surgery and showed her the pics of specimen, overwhelmed she said... Subhan Allah...

Sharing a recent case that highlights an important point about hysterosalpingography (HSG) and patient selection.

A 39-year-old woman with secondary infertility presented with lower abdominal pain and persistent fever spikes for 3 weeks after undergoing hysterosalpingography (HSG) as part of infertility workup. An outside CT scan had reported a 4 x 4 cm left ovarian complex mass, likely endometrioma. However, repeat ultrasound at our center showed a rapidly enlarged 10 x 11 cm complex adnexal mass.

Given the preceding HSG, persistent fever, and rapid increase in size, we proceeded with diagnostic laparoscopy, adhesiolysis, and left ovarian cystectomy. Intraoperatively, the cyst contained thick anchovy sauce-like fluid. The left tube was dilated, and there were dense adhesions involving the tubo-ovarian mass, sigmoid colon, and anterior uterine wall.

The patient recovered well postoperatively.

This case is a reminder that before performing HSG, we must carefully evaluate for: >Prior PID
>Hydrosalpinx or tubal disease
>Active ge***al tract infection
>Pregnancy
>Contrast allergy
>>Need for antibiotic prophylaxis in high-risk patients

A complex adnexal mass with fever after HSG should always raise suspicion for tubo-ovarian infection or infected endometrioma, even when imaging initially suggests otherwise.

Clinical vigilance matters. Patient selection matters. Pre-procedure screening matters.

Did you know that not all vulvar cancers are the same? 🤔

Understanding the different types is key because each behaves differently and requires specific care. While Squamous Cell Carcinoma is the most common type (starting right in the skin cells), there are other less common but highly important types to be aware of, including:

Melanoma

Adenocarcinoma

Basal Cell Carcinoma
