Boost immunity in winters 5 tips :
Winter season brings with it pleasant sunshine, beautiful flowers and also cold winds and repeated episodes of cough & cold in children. Parents are therefore concerned and often ask about the ways to strengthen child’s immune system. Can we actually do that ?
The answer is yes . To some extent we can work upon it . Let me share some easy tips :
1. Healthy diet : Incorporate lots of fruits and vegetables in your child’s diet plan , 5 servings is optimum Carrots, beet roots , oranges , apples and greens are easily available in winters and are full of phytonutrients like carotenoids , Vitamin C and macro & micronutrients like magnesium, calcium, iron etc. These nutrients enhance the body’s capacity to fight infections.
2. Sleep well : Let your child have sufficient sleep time . The ideal sleep time varies from 18 hours in a newborn to 10 hours in a preschooler. Sleep deprived babies fall sick often due to weak immune system and delayed natural rejuvenation process.
3. Get physically active : Regular exercise increase the natural killer cells in body and help kids develop strong immunity besides improving stamina , growth and muscle strengthening. Being a role model for your child is very important. So go out in sun and play games with your children .
4. Hygiene : Maintaining good hygiene ensures lesser infections and lesser stress on immune system. This is vital for healthy living. Teach your children regular and proper hand washing, covering mouth with clean handkerchiefs while sneezing of coughing, disposing the wastes properly and keeping the surroundings clean to ensure this.
5. Prevention is the key: Get your child vaccinated at the recommended age to develop resistance against vaccine preventable diseases. Consult your paediatrician periodically for timely vaccines and growth and development assessment.
With these simple tips, I am sure you will be able to make a difference.
