At Ashadeep Day Rehabilitation Centre (ADRC), we are proud to host interns from institutions across India, including Cotton University, Gauhati University, Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia College, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, Pragjyotishpur University, Christ University, Kristu Jayanti College, Jyoti Nivas College, Central University of Haryana, Lovely Professional University, Lakshmibai College (University of Delhi), Assam Women’s University, Assam Don Bosco University, Central University of Karnataka, and many more.

Through hands-on exposure to mental health, neurodevelopmental disorders, and psychosocial rehabilitation, students gain practical experience while fostering empathy, inclusion, and community engagement.

When Karishma Das, 17 years (name changed) joined our treatment program on June 2025, she carried more than epilepsy – she carried the pain of a lonely childhood. Her mother had left, her father and stepmother couldn't give her the love every child deserves and her only constant was her grandmother, who never stopped believing in her.
Frequent seizures (2-3 times a day) forced Karishma to leave school and without friends, her world grew smaller. All she ever wanted was a normal childhood – to study, laugh, make friends and feel loved.
Karishma's journey took a hopeful turn when our field worker identified her in the community and enrolled her in Ashadeep’s AHT Manobal Community Mental Health Program supported by Ashraya Hastha Trust. Through regular home visits, our field worker closely monitored her medication, encouraged treatment adherence, supported her grandmother and continuously motivated Karishma to return to school and rebuild her confidence. Eventually after almost a year, on May 2026 her condition got stable and she expressed her desire to go back to school. Our field worker accompanied Karishma and her grandmother to the school, assisted them with the admission process by providing psycho-education to the teachers to make them understand about her condition and helped ensure she could begin this new chapter with confidence and hope.
With timely treatment, dedicated care, the unwavering support of her grandmother and consistent follow-up from our team, Karishma's life slowly changed. Today, her seizures are under control and she is back in school, making friends and rediscovering the joy of being a child.

Ashadeep’s Reintegration Diaries | Back Home, Back to Hope 🏡

A Journey from Darkness to Hope

On 5th August 2025, Rajan (name changed) was rescued by Boko Police while wandering in a vulnerable condition due to mental illness. He was admitted to Udayan – Rehabilitation Home for Homeless Men with Mental Illness, run by Ashadeep – A Mental Health Society.

With psychiatric treatment, counseling, and compassionate rehabilitation support, Rajan gradually regained his health and identity. After months of dedicated care and efforts to trace his family, he was successfully reunited with his family in Bihar on 25th October 2025.

The emotional reunion with his wife and loved ones was a powerful reminder that recovery is possible and every person deserves a chance to return home with dignity.

This is not just a reunion—it is a story of hope, healing, and the transformative power of mental healthcare.

Learning Beyond the Classroom 🌱

Our interns from diverse academic backgrounds had the opportunity to engage with residents of Navachetana and Udayan at Bamunigoan through meaningful interactions and group activities. These experiences support residents in strengthening their social and communication skills while giving students valuable exposure to mental health rehabilitation, compassionate care, and the importance of inclusion. Beyond academics, they learned the value of empathy, respect, and meaningful human connection.
