EM AND THE BIG HOOM
𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤:
Em and the Big Hoom by Jerry Pinto, published in 2012, offers a profoundly moving, witty, and tender look into the lives of the Mendes family living in a cramped Mumbai apartment. The story is narrated by an unnamed young man navigating the complex realities of growing up with a brilliant but deeply troubled mother who battles severe bipolar disorder, and a fiercely devoted father who holds the family together. The novel explores family dynamics, love, resilience, and the emotional burden of caregiving with remarkable honesty and compassion.
