The LVPEI network includes a Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad, 3 tertiary centres in Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, 22 secondary, 4 urban city centres and 234+ primary care centres that cover the remotest rural areas in the four states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Karnataka. The Institute's innovative and comprehensive approach to community eye health, the LVPEI Eye Health

Pyramid, has been adopted as a model by the Government of India and by other developing countries. LVPEI is a not-for-profit organization governed by two trusts: the Hyderabad Eye Institute and the Hyderabad Eye Research Foundation. The Institute is a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Prevention of Blindness and a Global Resource Center for VISION 2020: The Right to Sight initiative. The Institute's campuses in Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada are accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH).

- Today, the Kode Venkatadri Chowdary (KVC) Campus at Tadigadapa in Vijayawada completes fifteen years of distinguished service to the people of Andhra Pradesh! A milestone made possible by the remarkable philanthropy of Sri Kode Satyanarayana Garu and family, whose generous land grant and seed funding laid the foundation for this thriving centre of eye care excellence.

Over the years, KVC has grown into a leading tertiary care hub within the LVPEI network, known for its expertise in: 👁️ , 🩺 , 🎗️ , 🌟 and for being a trusted regional referral centre for complex clinical needs.

In 2025 alone, we served
👥 145,000+ outpatient consultations (with 28% provided at no cost to the patient)
🏥 15,500+ surgeries (38% of these were provided at no cost to patient)
🤝 7,200+ individuals supported through Vision Rehabilitation (with 48% receiving free services)

- The Institute for Vision Rehabilitation (IVR) Annual Volunteers Meet 2026 brought together 165 volunteers, onsite and online, to reflect on what consistent, committed action can achieve.

The day highlighted real outcomes:
👁 Beneficiaries describing how targeted support helped them clear competitive exams and regain independence.
👁 Volunteers sharing what long‑term engagement has taught them about inclusion and accessibility.
👁 Partners demonstrating practical assistive technology being used by clients today.
👁 CSR teams discussing scalable ways to strengthen workplace‑based volunteerism.

The discussions, demonstrations, and feedback sessions made one thing clear:
Impact grows when people collaborate with clarity, purpose, and continuity.

- On 1 February 2026, we hosted the 18th Champalimaud Symposium, marking the 20th anniversary of the Champalimaud Foundation—our long-standing partner in advancing translational eye research.
From cutting-edge work in liquid biopsies, AI for global eye health, and ocular genetics, to LVPEI’s own breakthroughs in mucormycosis care, Retinopathy of Prematurity, lacrimal gland biology, uveitis, myopia, and vision science, the day showcased the depth and impact of collaborative research.

The Champalimaud Oration by Dr Tien Y Wong explored a powerful question: How do we prepare ophthalmologists for the AI era? His message underscored the need for trust, validation, and new skills as AI reshapes clinical practice worldwide.
A huge thank you to all speakers, collaborators, and clinician-scientists who are pushing boundaries to bring research from the lab to the clinic, and ultimately to the community.

- We were honoured to have Hon’ble Governor of Odisha, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, join us at the LVPEI Mithu Tulsi Chanrai (MTC) Campus in Bhubaneswar to commemorate a remarkable achievement at the Drusti Daan Eye Bank (DDEB).

The eye bank has now received over 20,000 donor corneas—a milestone that reflects two decades of dedicated work and the deep compassion of the people of Odisha. Each donation represents restored sight, renewed independence, and a family’s meaningful decision during a difficult time.
At the event, the Governor appreciated the eye bank’s contribution to combating corneal blindness and encouraged citizens to pledge their eyes to help those in need.

Dr Sujata Das, Medical Director of DDEB, highlighted the growth of the centre—from collecting just 30 corneas in its first five years to becoming one of the top five eye banks in the country today. The hub‑and‑spoke model, with 10 partner hospitals across the state, continues to expand eye banking services to rural and semi‑urban regions.

This milestone reaffirms our commitment to ensuring that no one remains blind for lack of a donor cornea. We encourage everyone to consider pledging their eyes and initiating these conversations within their families.

👁️ 🧠 Earlier this week, the Eye and Brain Health Symposium 2026 successfully convened experts from ophthalmology, neurology, neuroscience, public health, and child development to explore the evolving eye–brain interface.

Key themes included:
• The eye–brain interface in health and disease
• Healthy ageing and community-based brain health
• Children’s vision, neurodevelopment, and learning
• AI, oculomics, and emerging biomarkers of brain disease

A day of deep insights into the science that shapes how we see, think, and develop. Our team at LVPEI presented the Cognitive Level Enhancement through Vision Exams and Refraction (CLEVER) and The Longitudinal Eye Health Aging and Disability Study (LEADS) initiatives, and defined future translational priorities for integrated eye–brain health at LVPEI.

Earlier this month, our Mithu Tulsi Chanrai (MTC) campus in Bhubaneswar, experienced two truly inspiring events: one anchored in knowledge sharing, and the other in celebration and togetherness!

🌿 We were honoured to host the '16th Bijayananda Patnaik Memorial Lecture' on the topic 'National One Health Mission', delivered by Dr Sanghamitra Pati, Additional Director General, ICMR, and Director, ICMR–RMRC, Bhubaneswar. The lecture was attended by over 350 participants, reflecting wide interest in the subject. On this occasion, Dr Pati adopted a tree on the campus as a meaningful gesture towards environmental sustainability, and an honorary plaque was presented to her in recognition of her distinguished contributions and leadership in the field of health research.

🎉 The campus also came alive on occasion of the The 21st Foundation Day of the LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) MTC Campus, Bhubaneswar! Celebrated with great enthusiasm, the event marked over two decades of dedicated service in eye care, education, and community outreach. The occasion was graced by a vibrant array of cultural programs presented by students and staff, showcasing India’s rich heritage through traditional dance, music, and other performances. The celebration not only highlighted the artistic talents of the participants but also fostered a spirit of unity and gratitude, honoring the institution’s journey, achievements.
