Since it's still September, a little more on

I've had many patients come and tell me that they are extremely worried coz they have "PCOD" and that it apparently cannot be treated or they cannot have babies in future or that the changes in the body cannot be undone, etc...

I want all you guys to remove every god damn thing that you've heard about PCOS so far and remember that

~ PCOD/S CAN BE REVERSED.
~ YOU CAN HAVE A NORMAL CYCLE.
~ YOU CAN REDUCE WEIGHT EVEN WITH THIS CONDITION.
~ YOU CAN HAVE CHILDREN.
~ IT IS NOT A DEAD END.

I'll talk about how it can be reversed in the next post but for now I want all the 'cysters' ( :p ) reading this post to put in the comments section, the most bizzare thing or something whiçh panicked them the most as soon as they were diagnosed with PCOD.

September is the and today is World PCOS day (a very common menstrual disorder) so let's get educated on this.

PCOS is a metabolic, hormone and reproductive disorder that affects anywhere from 10% to 21% of women all across the world. PCOD/S is diagnosed if there are two or three of the following symptoms:

1. Androgen excess: Symptoms of high androgens such as acne or excessive facial or body hair.
2. Ovarian dysfunction: Menstrual irregularities or absent me**es (occ excessive bleeding is also seen but in a very minor population)
3. String of pearl on the ovaries: An ultrasound showing polycystic ovaries (multiple immature follicles in the o***y)

Most PCOS patients start experiencing symptoms around the onset of puberty, but end up being not/mis/under-diagnosed until they have difficulty getting pregnant or worse, until after they have developed other metabolic complications from having PCOS.
The main reason leading to neglection is an uncomfortable feeling which still prevails around period discussions in general and hence the need of awareness on this topic.

Packed today's with a bit of a reality, do bare with me.

Do not expect a disease that's been ongoing for years, to be cured within a few weeks.
Do not expect a disease to go away, when you do not wish to put in effort. .
Do not expect the a cure from the root, if you do not want to move a butt. .
Do not expect the disease to get cured if you cannot make time to get better.
Do not have unrealistic health goals, if you have a negligible efforts.

P.S.: It's time you start that therapy (mental/physical) session, that dietary advices, that life style change, and most importantly it's time to develop that change in the thought process.

The doctor who saves your kin is considered god and put on a pedestal, the one who couldn't inspite of all the hardwork put in is considered irresponsible and is almost beaten up to death.

They are just humans who have worked hard for a degree which qualifies them to be able to assist you with your health. Yes it is a very responsible job to take up.
But now new gen aspirants are scared to take it up due to the undue violence against doctors.
In a country like India if we do not get people to take up the course, the burden of healthcare cannot be handled well.
Though there are thousands of medicos graduating every year, we still have a lot of people who do not have access to doctors. So just imagine the situation if the number of people opting for it reduce.

On this Doctor's Day, I'd like to break this ever prevailing myth and tell you that
Doctors are not god. Period.
