As we head towards the festival of lights, Diwali, there is a nip in the morning air and the days are hot…technically we are in-between seasons before we head into winter in the 1-2nd week November. Case 1: Master Vivan (name changed) aged 7 years has been having a free flowing nose with sneezing continuously especially in the mornings after waking up. Right until the time he goes to school, manages to wet 3-5 hand towels with his watery nasal discharges. There is a slight temperature in the mornings and there is the beginning of a chest congestions accompanied with dry cough. Bowel movement is normal and appetite is slightly decreased. This was his state when he was brought to the clinic 3 days after the initial bouts of sold and sneezing started.
After checking the neck glands (slightly tender), examining the lungs (slight congestion) and Ear, Nose and Throat (inflammed), Eyes (injected), the first Homeopathic prescription was given and was asked to report back in 3 days.
That night there was a slight increase in his temperature and his bowels moved and he evacuated watery foul smelling stools.
Next day, there was a distinct reduction in his nasal discharges and also his sneezing though not completely gone, his bowel movement was normal. His feverish feeling subsided late the next day. The 3rd day when he was brought for a follow-up, he was still weak with an almost no nasal discharges and normal chest, normal neck glands and appetite had returned to normal.
A 2nd prescription of homeopathic medicines taking in the current symptoms was given. The boy was as good as new from the 4th day on and continued with school routine without a break.
Notable in this boy’s history is that whenever he was on allopathic medicines for his previous bouts of the same problem, he used to miss school because of some “side-effects” of the drugs like loose motions, extreme weakness or upset stomach.
