🚨 A liver cyst doesn't always mean cancer. Don't panic after an ultrasound report.

Many people get worried when a scan mentions a liver cyst or liver tumor, but the good news is that most liver lesions are not cancerous.

Here's what you should know:
✅ Simple liver cysts are common and often don't require treatment.
✅ Benign liver tumors (such as hemangiomas or FNH) are usually non-cancerous and may only need periodic follow-up.
✅ Liver cancer is a different condition that requires timely diagnosis and specialized treatment.

A contrast-enhanced CT scan or MRI can often help determine exactly what kind of liver lesion you have and guide the next steps.

👨‍⚕️ The key message: Don't ignore it—but don't assume it's cancer either.

A proper evaluation by a gastroenterologist or liver specialist is the best way to get the right diagnosis and treatment.

Bariatric Surgery Is No Longer Just Weight Loss Surgery: Here's What I Tell My Patients

Pantoprazole, Rabeprazole, Omeprazole and similar medicines—called proton pump inhibitors or PPIs—are excellent medications when used for the right reason and for the right duration.

The problem begins when people continue taking them for months or even years without medical advice.

Long-term, unnecessary use of PPIs has been associated with problems such as reduced absorption of vitamin B12, calcium and magnesium, an increased risk of bone fractures, kidney disease, certain intestinal infections, and interactions with some medications.

That doesn’t mean everyone should stop taking them.

Many patients genuinely need long-term PPIs—for example, those with severe GERD, Barrett’s oesophagus, recurrent ulcers, or after certain gastrointestinal procedures.

The key message is simple:

Don’t self-medicate. Don’t continue refilling the prescription indefinitely.

If you’ve been taking Pantoprazole or similar medicines regularly for several months, it’s worth discussing with a gastroenterologist whether you still need them or whether the dose can be reduced or stopped safely.

Use the right medicine, for the right condition, for the right duration.
