Trying to improve s***m health? Start with the basics.
Male fertility is influenced by more than just supplements.
Sleep, heat exposure, smoking, alcohol, exercise, nutrition, and nutrient status can all affect s***m count, movement, and quality.
Some of the habits I focus on with my patients include:
• Sleeping 7 to 9 hours
• Avoiding hot tubs and excess heat
• Limiting alcohol
• Quitting smoking and va**ng
• Strength training regularly
• Keeping phones and laptops away from the groin
• Getting blood work and a semen analysis when needed
Common male fertility supplements include:
• L-carnitine: Helps support s***m movement and energy production.
• Zinc: Important for testosterone and normal s***m production.
• NAC: Supports antioxidant levels and may help protect s***m from oxidative stress.
• Folate: Supports healthy DNA production and s***m development.
• Vitamin D: Supports hormone and reproductive health, especially if levels are low.
• CoQ10: Supports cellular energy and may help s***m movement and quality.
• Omega-3s: Support s***m cell membranes and a healthy inflammatory response.
• Vitamin C: An antioxidant that helps protect s***m from oxidative damage.
Foods can help too:
• Spinach: Provides folate and antioxidants that support healthy s***m development.
• Walnuts: Provide omega-3 fats and antioxidants that may support s***m quality.
• Pumpkin seeds: Rich in zinc, magnesium, and healthy fats.
• Salmon: Provides omega-3 fats, protein, and vitamin D.
• Oysters: One of the richest food sources of zinc.
The biggest thing to remember is this:
S***m take about 2 to 3 months to develop.
That means the habits you start today may affect s***m quality several weeks from now.
You do not need to do everything perfectly.
Start with the basics and build from there.
And if you have been trying to conceive without success, do not only focus on the female partner.
Male fertility testing matters too.
