🚨 FSSAI has reportedly asked companies like Red Bull, STING MAROC and others to stop using the term “energy drink” and given them 90 days to comply.

This isn’t just about a label.

It raises an important question:

👉 Should stimulant-containing beverages be marketed so aggressively to teenagers and young adults?

As psychiatrists, stimulant medications are prescribed only after careful assessment, for specific medical conditions, with appropriate follow-up.

These beverages are not the same as prescription stimulant medicines.

But they are often marketed using words like energy, focus and performance to a generation already dealing with:
• 😴 Poor sleep
• 📚 Late-night studying
• 😰 Stress
• 🏃 Constant pressure to perform

Maybe the bigger conversation isn’t just about the name “energy drink.”

Maybe it’s about how we protect adolescent and young adult brain health while allowing informed consumer choice.

Mental health is a universal conversation, but every culture experiences and addresses it differently.

We had the privilege of engaging with the 2026 India Medical Mission cohort in a thoughtful discussion on mental health in India, exploring themes that resonate across healthcare systems worldwide:

🧠 Breaking stigma around mental illness
❤️ The importance of work-life balance and physician wellbeing
👨‍👩‍👧 The role of families and culture in mental healthcare
🤝 Access to care and the challenges that remain
🌿 The value of a holistic and compassionate approach to healing

What made this interaction with Dr Jyothirmayi MD MRCPsych (UK) Psychiatrist truly special was the curiosity, empathy, and openness of these current and future medical professionals. Conversations like these remind us that caring for patients also means caring for the people who provide that care.

A heartfelt thank you and best wishes to the incredible organizers — Jessica Madhukar, jessy Madhukar, Asha Madhukar, and Joel Madhukar and to all the participants —Aditha Chintapatla, Anjali Ketan, Gloris Sajan, Shafaq Buttar and others of the India Medical Mission 2026 cohort for an enriching exchange of ideas and perspectives.

Some spaces are designed to be quieter than the world outside. ✨

Recently, we welcomed a traditional Nepalese thangka to Manaha Clinic.

More than just a painting, thangkas have been used for centuries as visual tools for reflection, mindfulness, and contemplation. Every detail is intentional. Every symbol tells a story.

One fascinating aspect of thangka art is that it often guides the viewer’s attention from the complexity at the edges toward a calm center. It is a beautiful metaphor for mental wellbeing itself finding clarity amidst life’s noise.

As a Mind Wellness Center, we believe healing is shaped not only by clinical care, but also by the spaces we create, the conversations we have, and the moments that invite us to pause and reflect.

A small addition to our clinic. A meaningful reminder for all of us.

🇸🇪 Sweden reported the highest level of mental health symptoms in this survey (42%) yet remains one of the world’s happiest countries.

A few thoughts:

• Higher reporting does not always mean higher suffering.

• It may reflect greater awareness, openness, and willingness to seek help.

• Lower numbers do not always mean fewer mental health concerns.

• Stigma, under-recognition, and limited access to support can influence reporting.

• Mental health statistics are best understood alongside culture, awareness, and help-seeking behaviour.

Awareness is not a sign of weakness. It is often the first step toward wellbeing.

📚✨ A new school year begins, and with it comes new opportunities to inspire, guide, and support young minds.

A few months ago, Team Manaha Clinic had the privilege of conducting an interactive Mental Health Awareness & Stress Management session for the wonderful teachers and leadership team at The Gaudium School, Hyderabad.

From understanding stress and burnout to recognizing early signs that a child may need emotional, psychological, developmental, or neurological support, the session was filled with meaningful conversations, activities, and questions from passionate educators.

As schools reopen, we’d like to thank every teacher who goes beyond academics to nurture confidence, resilience, and well-being in their students. ❤️

Remember: teachers are often the first to notice when a child is struggling and early support can make a lifelong difference.

Here’s to a happy, healthy, and fulfilling academic year for teachers, students, and parents alike. 🌿

Today will be my last cigarette. I think I have said it the last time too.. oops 🙊

Many people have said this to themselves at least once.

We often hear phrases like “stay strong”, “move on”, or “keep it to yourself.”

But what happens when emotional suppression becomes a long-term coping style?

A Finnish population-based study (by researchers at Karolinska Institutet and collaborators including Miia Kivipelto, Inna Lisko, Tiia Ngandu, Alina Solomon et al) presented in Alzheimer’s & Dementia examined over 1,100 older adults and found an association between chronic emotional suppression and higher risk of dementia later in life.

Importantly:
• This study shows association, not causation
• The findings need further replication
• Emotional expression does not mean emotional impulsivity

What the research does reinforce is something mental health professionals increasingly recognize:
our emotional wellbeing and brain health are deeply interconnected.

Chronic stress, loneliness, unresolved emotional distress, poor sleep, depression, inflammation, and social withdrawal may all influence long-term cognitive health.

Protecting the brain is not only about memory exercises and medications. It is also about meaningful relationships, emotional processing, stress management, movement, sleep, and holistic wellbeing.

Trauma. You moved on. But your mind didn’t

As part of our Mental Health Self-Check Series, we’re sharing clinically validated tools to help you better understand what you may be experiencing.

- You avoid certain places without knowing why.

- A sound or memory brings back a strong reaction.

- Sleep is disturbed. You feel on edge, even when things seem fine.

For many people, these are not just passing reactions. They can be signs of trauma that the brain is still processing.

At Manaha Clinic | Mind & Neuro Center, we’ve curated a set of clinically validated self-check tools, including a brief PTSD screener (PC-PTSD-5) used in healthcare settings.

It’s a simple way to reflect on whether what you’re experiencing may be related to post-traumatic stress.

✔️ Takes a few minutes
✔️ Private
✔️ Evidence-based

If it raises questions, our team of clinical psychologists can guide you further with structured, assisted assessments.

You don’t have to figure this out alone.
