Blood group matching is thought to be a mandatory pre requisite for any surgery. But it gives an immense pleasure to share that we were able to conduct a successful ABO incompatible Liver transplant (blood group mismatch) with successful outcome. This young girl came to us with a rare Liver condition called Budd chiari syndrome, which resulted in end stage Liver damage and required almost 5-6 lits of fluid to be removed from her tummy and chest every 2 weeks. The only option left was Liver transplant but unfortunately there were no blood group matching donors. As time was running out for her, we decided to do go ahead with this life saving rare transplant. Her mother donated part of her Liver. Now they are 3 months post transplant and both the mother and daughter are doing extremely well with both having 100% functioning Livers. They have even gone back to their respective jobs.
It gives such an immense satisfaction when we see that our patients do well and nothing beats that feeling….
