🧠🦠 Your Gut & Brain Are in Constant Conversation!

Ever noticed that stress can upset your stomach… or that an uncomfortable gut can affect your mood? 😵‍💫

That’s the Gut–Brain Axis in action!

Your gut and brain communicate through nerves, hormones, immune signals and the gut microbiome. When this communication gets disturbed, you may experience symptoms like:

🤰 Bloating & excessive gas
🔥 Heartburn / reflux
💩 Constipation or diarrhoea
😣 Abdominal discomfort
🤢 Nausea
🧠 Anxiety, irritability or poor mood

The good news? Small daily habits can support this connection:

🥗 Eat a fibre-rich, diverse diet
🦠 Include appropriate probiotic foods
🚶‍♂️ Stay physically active
😴 Prioritise good-quality sleep
🧘‍♂️ Manage stress
💧 Stay adequately hydrated

Remember: A healthy gut doesn’t just help digestion—it may also support a healthier mind. ❤️

If persistent or severe GI symptoms are affecting your daily life, don’t simply blame “stress”—get them medically evaluated.

🦠 YOUR GUT DOESN’T JUST NEED FOOD… IT NEEDS THE RIGHT FOOD! 🌱

Think of your gut as a garden 🌿
👉 Fiber feeds the good bacteria
👉 Probiotics add beneficial live microorganisms
👉 Together, they can support better digestion and a healthier gut ecosystem.

And the best part? You don’t need exotic “superfoods”! 🇮🇳

Your everyday Indian plate already has plenty of gut-friendly options:
🥣 Dal, chana, rajma & sprouts
🌾 Whole wheat, oats, millets & daliya
🥕 Vegetables & leafy greens
🍎 Guava, apple, papaya & other whole fruits
🥛 Curd, chaas & other suitable fermented foods

💡 Simple rule: Increase fiber gradually, drink enough water, and include a variety of plant foods rather than relying on one “miracle” food.

🏚️ A building collapse doesn’t only cause fractures and visible wounds. Sometimes, the most dangerous injuries are the ones you cannot see.

The tragic building collapse in Satya Niketan, South Delhi, has once again reminded us how important trauma care and timely medical assessment are. Rescue teams and emergency services are working at the site, while families wait anxiously for their loved ones.

As a GI Surgeon, I want to highlight one aspect that is often overlooked:

👉 Abdominal and intestinal injuries can occur after significant crush or blunt trauma — even without an obvious external wound.

Liver, spleen, pancreas and bowel can all be injured.

And sometimes, symptoms may evolve over time.

🚨 After significant trauma, don’t ignore:
• Increasing abdominal pain
• Abdominal swelling
• Persistent vomiting
• Blood in stool
• Fever
• Dizziness or worsening weakness

Another important concern after prolonged entrapment is crush syndrome, which can cause serious electrolyte abnormalities and kidney injury.

🙏 My heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their lives, and strength to the families and survivors.

🌍 Nepal’s floods are not just a disaster story. They are a warning.

My heart goes out to the people of Nepal facing this devastating situation. 🇳🇵❤️

Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah has raised an important global question: how much of the increasing climate-related disaster burden is linked to a changing climate?

The answer is not as simple as blaming one event entirely on climate change. Floods also depend on rainfall patterns, geography, drainage, land use, deforestation and infrastructure. But science is clear that a warmer climate can intensify extreme rainfall and increase the risks faced by vulnerable communities.

And as a GI Surgeon, I see another side of this crisis: climate change is ultimately a health issue.

🌧️ Floods → contaminated water
🦠 Contaminated water → diarrhoeal & infectious diseases
🍚 Disrupted food systems → malnutrition
🏥 Disasters → overwhelmed healthcare systems
🧠 Displacement → long-term psychological stress

This is why climate action cannot remain only a political or environmental discussion.

What the world needs now:

🌱 Faster transition to cleaner energy
🌳 Protection of forests, rivers and biodiversity
🏗️ Climate-resilient infrastructure
💰 Greater climate financing for vulnerable nations
🤝 Stronger international cooperation
📢 Accountability from major emitters

And as individuals, we can contribute too—less waste, responsible consumption, public transport where possible, energy conservation and demanding better environmental policies.

But today, before anything else:

🇳🇵 We stand with the people of Nepal.
In moments like this, borders matter less than humanity.

Protecting our planet is no longer just about saving nature.
It is about protecting human health—and human lives.

🚶‍♂️ Your gut needs movement too! 🧘‍♂️

Constipation, bloating and sluggish digestion can become more common with age—but staying gently active can make a real difference. ❤️

These simple, elderly-friendly exercises can be done at home to support:
✅ Better digestion
✅ Natural bowel movement
✅ Less bloating & gas
✅ Better mobility and circulation
✅ Reduced prolonged sitting

💡 Start gently: 5–10 minutes a day, according to your comfort. Pair movement with adequate water, fiber-rich foods and regular walking.

⚠️ If you have severe pain, recent surgery, significant heart/lung disease, dizziness or difficulty exercising, speak with your doctor before starting.

👨‍⚕️ Small movements. Daily consistency. A happier gut.

🌊 When the water rises, humanity must rise higher.

Floods can take away homes, belongings and livelihoods — but together, we can help protect something even more precious: health and hope. 🤝❤️

For families affected by flooding in Nepal 🇳🇵 and communities facing floods around the world, simple measures can prevent serious illness:

💧 Drink safe, treated water
🍚 Eat freshly prepared, uncontaminated food
🧼 Wash hands frequently
🥤 Start ORS early if diarrhoea occurs
🚨 Recognise dehydration and other warning signs
🏥 Seek medical help early when needed

To everyone affected: you are not alone.
To the healthcare workers, rescuers, volunteers and neighbours helping on the ground: your compassion matters. 🙏

As a gastrointestinal surgeon, my message is simple:

Stay alert. Stay hydrated. Stay safe. Take care of one another. ❤️

🤯 BLOATING, GAS, ABDOMINAL PAIN… AFTER ALMOST EVERY MEAL?

It may not always be “just gas”! 🫃💨

For some people with IBS, certain carbohydrates called FODMAPs can be poorly absorbed and fermented in the gut, contributing to:

🎈 Bloating
💨 Excess gas
😣 Abdominal pain/discomfort
🚽 Diarrhoea, constipation or irregular bowel habits

🥗 LOW-FODMAP DIET can help reduce these symptoms in appropriately selected patients.

🇮🇳 And yes — it can be adapted to an Indian diet!

🌱 Vegetarian options: rice, poha, oats, suitable vegetables, selected fruits, lactose-free dairy & appropriate portions of pulses/tofu.

🍗 Non-vegetarian options: eggs, plain chicken, fish and meat are generally low in FODMAPs — but beware of onion- and garlic-heavy gravies! 🧅🧄

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Low-FODMAP does NOT mean “no carbohydrates” and it is NOT meant to be followed as a highly restrictive diet forever.

🔄 The ideal approach is:
Restriction → Reintroduction → Personalisation

🎯 The goal is not to eat less.
The goal is to identify your triggers while keeping your diet nutritious, varied and enjoyable. ❤️

📌 Save this post if bloating is troubling you.

🎗️ CANCER VACCINE 💉🧬

Can a vaccine fight cancer? YES — but it’s not a universal cure.

🛡️ Preventive vaccines
HPV & Hepatitis B vaccines can prevent infections linked to certain cancers.

🎯 Therapeutic cancer vaccines
For existing cancer, they train your immune system to recognise and attack cancer cells.

🧬 How?
Cancer antigen → 🧑‍🏫 Dendritic cells → ⚔️ T-cell activation → 🎯 Cancer-cell destruction → 🧠 Immune memory

🚀 The future?
Personalized mRNA cancer vaccines designed around mutations unique to a patient’s tumour are being actively studied.

In simple words:
💉 Don’t just attack cancer… teach the immune system to recognize it.

🎗️ Follow for more evidence-based cancer awareness.

🔥 PILES, FISSURE OR POST-SURGERY DISCOMFORT?
There’s a simple self-care step that many people underestimate…

🛁 SITZ BATH — when done correctly, warm water can help soothe pain, relax the area and improve comfort.

But here’s the catch 👇
❌ Water that’s too hot
❌ Staying too long
❌ Adding antiseptics/herbs without advice
❌ Unsafe tubs for elderly or mobility-impaired patients

✅ Lukewarm water
✅ 10–15 minutes
✅ Gentle drying — don’t rub
✅ Use a safe setup with assistance when needed

👴 Elderly? Use a toilet-seat sitz bath for better stability.
♿ Paralysed or mobility-impaired? A bedside/portable sitz bath with caregiver assistance can make it much safer.

💡 Small routine. Big difference in comfort.

🚨 H1N1 IN DELHI 2026 — SHOULD YOU BE WORRIED? 🦠

Cases of H1N1 (Swine Flu) are rising in Delhi, and that naturally raises an important question: Is this the next COVID? 😷

The answer: No need to panic — but don’t ignore it either.

H1N1 is a seasonal influenza virus that can cause:
🌡️ Sudden fever
😷 Dry cough
🤧 Sore throat
💪 Body & muscle aches
🥱 Extreme tiredness

⚠️ Extra caution is needed for young children, elderly people, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses or reduced immunity.

🛡️ Protect yourself & your family:
✅ Wear a mask in crowded/poorly ventilated places
✅ Wash your hands regularly
✅ Cover coughs & sneezes
✅ Keep indoor spaces well ventilated
✅ Discuss flu vaccination with your doctor when appropriate
❌ Avoid unnecessary antibiotics or self-medication

🚨 Seek medical attention if there is breathing difficulty, persistent/high fever, severe weakness, confusion, dehydration, or worsening symptoms.
