What is Prosthe6? 👁️
(RP) MOLECULAR PROSTHESIS
Prosthe6 is an experimental light-sensitive (photoswitchable) drug designed to restore vision in diseases like retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Instead of replacing dead photoreceptors, Prosthe6 activates surviving ON bipolar cells, mimicking the signals normally generated by photoreceptors when light enters the eye.
In blind mice, it restored light perception after both intravitreal injection and eye drops, without gene therapy or retinal implants.
⚠️ It is not a cure and is not approved for human use. So far, the results are limited to preclinical animal studies.
Do u think it will be approved for human use in future?
