We are delighted to share Dr Gaurav Kant Sharma recently had the opportunity to be part of a three-day intermediate-to-advanced Musculoskeletal Radiology Course in Johannesburg, South Africa 🇿🇦 from 11-13th September

Over the three days, Dr.Gaurav delivered total Eight lectures covering musculoskeletal MRI interpretation , musculoskeletal ultrasound and image-guided musculoskeletal interventions for treatment of various chronic Pain conditions and sports Injuries.

It was a thoroughly engaging academic experience, with excellent discussions, interesting cases and enthusiastic participation throughout the course. Team JIPSI is Grateful to the organisers, fellow faculty of the course and delegates for their warmth and hospitality and the incredible mutual learning opportunity 🙏

From injury to recovery — every step counts. 💪

A young man sustained a knee injury while skiing, resulting in a lax ACL and injury to the posterior horn and body of the medial meniscus. Today marks the third and final PRP session, with ultrasound-guided injections administered to the medial meniscus followed by the ACL through both anterior and posterior approaches.

Precision-guided regenerative therapy aims to support healing, restore function, and help patients return to the activities they love.

🙌 Sometimes, the right intervention can make all the difference.

This inspiring patient came to us with a frozen shoulder that had significantly limited her ability to perform everyday activities. Simple movements had become a challenge, and shoulder stiffness was taking a toll on her quality of life.

Following a targeted C5 nerve root block and hydrodilatation procedure, along with immediate physiotherapy, the results were truly rewarding.

Years after a road traffic accident and surgery, the scar may heal… but the nerve may still remain trapped.

This patient had persistent discomfort over the lateral leg and foot for almost 2 years — numbness, pins-and-needles, and an “ant-crawling” sensation that affected daily comfort.

On evaluation, fibrous post-surgical scarring around the neck of the fibula was found to be entrapping the common peroneal nerve.

Under ultrasound guidance, hydrodissection was performed around the common peroneal nerve and its two branches — the superficial peroneal and deep peroneal nerves — to gently separate the nerve from surrounding scar tissue and reduce mechanical irritation.

Persistent tingling, numbness, burning, or crawling sensations after trauma or surgery should not be ignored. Sometimes, the problem is not in the skin — it is the nerve asking for help.

A simple fall led to persistent shoulder pain, stiffness, and difficulty performing daily activities.

🔹 Diagnosis:
✔️ Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder)
✔️ Partial Supraspinatus Tear
✔️ Severe Shoulder Pain with Restricted Range of Motion

To address both pain and healing, a comprehensive regenerative and interventional approach was used:

💉 Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection to promote tissue healing and recovery.
⚡ Pulsed Radiofrequency Ablation (PRF) of the Suprascapular Nerve for long-lasting pain modulation.
🎯 SHAC (Shoulder Anterior Capsular) Block to target pain generators and improve mobility.

The goal was not just pain relief, but restoration of shoulder function, improved range of motion, and enhanced quality of life.

“Pain on the little-finger side of your wrist? It may be TFCC damage—not just a sprain. Here’s how PRP can help.”

🇨🇦 This patient traveled from Canada with persistent right-sided wrist pain that had become so severe she was struggling even with daily cooking and household activities.

After evaluation, the diagnosis pointed towards degeneration and injury of the TFCC (Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex) along with associated Distal Radioulnar Ligament and Meniscal Homolog degeneration—a commonly missed cause of pain on the little-finger (ulnar/inner) side of the wrist.

Today, I performed an Ultrasound-Guided PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Injection to stimulate the body’s natural healing response and support tissue repair in these damaged structures.

⚠️ If you have:
✔️ Pain on the inner (ulnar) side of the wrist
✔️ Difficulty lifting, twisting, opening jars, or cooking
✔️ Pain while gripping objects
✔️ Persistent wrist pain despite medications and rest

…it may not be a simple sprain. TFCC pathology should be considered.

PRP offers a regenerative, non-surgical option that may help reduce pain, improve function, and promote healing in appropriately selected patients.
