Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain caused by inflammation or degeneration of the thick band of tissue running across the bottom of the foot. It causes sharp, stabbing pain usually felt with the first steps in the morning or after resting, with over 2 million people treated annually in the U.S.. It is often caused by overuse or high-impact activities.

Symptoms

Stabbing heel pain: Often on the bottom of the foot near the heel.

Morning pain: Severe pain with the first few steps after waking up.

Pain after rest: Pain increases after long periods of sitting or standing.

Pain reduction: Pain often decreases after a few minutes of walking, but can return later.

Common Causes and Risk Factors
Plantar fasciitis occurs when too much pressure damages or tears the tissue, often related to:

High Impact Activity: Running, walking, or dancing on hard surfaces.

Foot Structure: High arches or flat feet.

Footwear: Shoes with poor arch support or cushioning.

Excess Weight: High body mass index (BMI) can increase strain.

Age: It is most common in people between 40 and 60.

Common Treatments
Most people recover with conservative methods, though recovery can take 6 to 18 months.

Rest: Reducing activities that cause pain.

Icing: Applying ice to the heel for 5–10 minutes, 2-3 times daily.

Stretching: Specific exercises for the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia.

Footwear Upgrades: Using supportive shoes, orthotics, or heel cups.

Medication: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen.

Night Splints: Devices that stretch the foot while sleeping.

Other Options: In stubborn cases, doctors may recommend physical therapy, cortisone injections, or extracorporeal shockwave therapy

Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is a group of disorders caused by the compression of nerves (brachial plexus) or blood vessels (subclavian artery/vein) in the area between the collarbone and first rib. Symptoms include neck/shoulder pain, numbness, tingling in the arms/hands, and vascular changes like swelling or discoloration. Treatment typically involves physical therapy, lifestyle adjustments, or surgery

Types of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome:

Neurogenic (most common): Compression of the brachial plexus nerves, causing pain and numbness.

Vascular (Venous or Arterial): Compression of the subclavian vein or artery, causing swelling, color changes, or lack of pulse.

Nonspecific-type: Chronic, unexplained pain in the area.

Symptoms
Nerve compression: Numbness, tingling (paresthesia), and pain in the shoulder, neck, and fingers, particularly the little and ring fingers.

Vascular compression: Swelling of the arm, cyanosis (bluish discoloration), cold sensation, and weakened pulse.

General symptoms: Reduced strength in the hand (Gilliatt-Sumner hand), pain radiating from the armpit, and a painful lump near the collarbone.

A 7-10 minute morning stretching routine improves mobility, increases energy, and reduces stiffness from sleeping. Key stretches include hamstrings stretches with a reach, downward-facing dog for back/shoulders, knee-to-chest, spinal twists, and chest openers. These gentle movements wake up muscles, boost blood flow, and improve posture.

Essential Morning Stretches (7-10 Minutes)

Hamstring Stretch with Reach: Stand and hinge forward with a flat back, reaching arms straight up.

Downward Dog: Good for thoracic extension, focusing on bringing chest toward knees.

Knee-to-Chest: Lie on your back and pull one knee toward your chest to stretch the lower back.

Spinal Twist: While lying on your back, gently let your knees fall to one side.

Cobra Stretch: Lie on your stomach and place hands under shoulders to lift the chest.

Side Stretch: Reach one arm overhead and lean to the side to stretch the hip and side body.

Shoulder/Chest Opener: Squeeze shoulder blades together, often done with a "cactus" arm motion.

Routine Tips

Do not skip the warm-up: Gentle movement (like light walking or shifting) before stretching helps to improve joint health.

Hold stretches: Hold each stretch for about 30 seconds.

Focus on breath: Inhale to prepare, exhale to deepen the stretch.

If you have health issues: Avoid knee-to-chest if you have osteoporosis.

Hijama (cupping therapy) helps relieve back pain by using suction to increase blood flow, reduce inflammation, and relax tight muscles. It acts as a non-invasive treatment that eases chronic back pain, enhances mobility, and reduces muscle spasms by promoting localized healing and releasing toxins.

Key Roles and Mechanisms of Hijama for Back Pain:

Improved Circulation & Healing: Suction pulls oxygen-rich blood to sore, damaged tissues, accelerating recovery.

Reduced Muscle Tension: The vacuum effect loosens tight muscle bands and alleviates spasms.

Anti-inflammatory Effects: It acts as a natural anti-inflammatory, reducing localized congestion.

Pain Relief via Endorphins: It stimulates the release of endorphins, reducing the sensation of pain, especially for chronic lower back issues.

Nerve Stimulation: It can help reduce pressure on nerves.
