Why can a teenager’s hip problem feel like knee pain? 🦵
Dr. Rohit Jain, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon in Thane, explains that Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE) can cause pain that is felt in the knee—even when the actual problem is in the hip.
SCFE occurs when the ball of the hip joint slips through the growth plate, usually during adolescence and periods of rapid growth.
Watch for these warning signs:
• Persistent limp
• Knee or hip pain without a clear injury
• Hip stiffness
• Foot turning outward while walking
Because hip problems can cause referred pain around the knee, diagnosis may sometimes be delayed. Early evaluation and treatment are important to prevent further hip damage and long-term joint problems.
If your teenager has unexplained knee pain with a limp or difficulty walking, don’t ignore it. Consult a pediatric orthopedic specialist.
