Navigating a challenging case : a combination of a dense, hard cataract and Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS). This duo significantly increases surgical risk, but we were prepared!
To ensure a safe and controlled phacoemulsification, we utilized Iris Hooks for mechanical pupil expansion and stabilization. The hooks gently retract the iris tissue, preventing prolapse and keeping the pupil widely dilated throughout the entire procedure.
This technique is crucial when managing IFIS, as it prevents iris damage, reduces the risk of capsular rupture, and allows for efficient energy delivery into the hard nucleus.
