But what if those 28 points are hiding the very issue you need to understand?

In traditional Vedic matchmaking, Ashtakoota has a precise 36-point structure:

Varna 1 + Vashya 2 + Tara 3 + Yoni 4 + Graha Maitri 5 + Gana 6 + Bhakoot 7 + Nadi 8 = 36

The problem is not the mathematics.
The problem is treating the final number as the marriage verdict.

The eight K***s examine different dimensions of compatibility, and they do not carry equal weight. Nadi alone carries 8 points, Bhakoot 7, Gana 6 and Graha Maitri 5. Traditional matching also gives Nadi significant priority. So a 28/36 score cannot simply mean 28 = good without examining what produced those 28 points.
