It is one of the largest referral centers for the treatment of diseases pertaining to Retinal diseases, Ocular trauma, Cataract & Glaucoma, Uvea, Orbit and Oculoplasty, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Cornea and Refractive Errors, Contact Lens, Low Vision Aid and complicated surgical interventions. With its five fully equipped operation theaters, it performs more than 6500 surgeries every year. It also performs more than 600 free surgeries and treats over 8000 patients through free camps conducted by the SSM Trust every year. GEI also conducts post-doctoral fellowship programs viz. fellowship in Retina, Cataract & Glaucoma, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Comprehensive Ophthalmology, etc. Institute is accredited to National Board of Examinations, New Delhi for the DNB (equivalent to MS/MD) Course.
