Building Cancer Awareness Among the Young!

Early awareness is key to building a healthier and more informed generation. With this aim, Kolhapur Cancer Centre (KCC) – Cancer Centers of America (CCA) conducted a lecture on Prostate Cancer Awareness at Vivekanand College, Kolhapur.

The session was delivered by Dr. Swapnil Huparikar in the presence of Dr. C. B. Patil and other dignitaries from Vivekanand College, highlighting prostate cancer risk factors, warning signs, and the importance of early detection and timely medical consultation.

KCC–CCA offers comprehensive diagnostic facilities for prostate cancer, supporting timely evaluation, accurate diagnosis, and appropriate treatment planning.

Awareness Starts Young. Prevention Starts with a Conversation.

As part of our prostate cancer awareness initiative, Kolhapur Cancer Centre – Cancer Centers of America (KCC–CCA) conducted an awareness session at CSIBER College, Kolhapur.

The session was led by Dr. Reshma Pawar, Executive Director KCC-CCA who educated students about prostate cancer, its risk factors, and the importance of early detection. The programme was graced by CSIBER College dignitaries Dr. T. V. G. Sharma, Dr. D. M. Bhosale, S. V. Gawade, and Dr. S. S. Apte, along with staff members.

Why is cancer awareness important among the young generation? Because awareness travels beyond the classroom. Informed young people can help start meaningful conversations at home, encourage their parents and relatives to prioritise their health, and spread the message of timely screening and medical consultation.

Through our "50 Minutes After 50” initiative, we encourage men aged 50 and above to take 50 minutes for their health and seek timely medical advice about prostate cancer.

At KCC–CCA, we believe that when young minds become aware, families become better informed. Together, let’s make cancer awareness a conversation that reaches every generation.

As healthcare professionals, our responsibility extends beyond treating a disease. It is equally important to recognise the emotional, social and personal needs of every individual, especially older adults navigating the challenges of cancer.

On the occasion of International Day of Older Persons, we were delighted to celebrate alongside students from CSIBER Kolhapur’s Trust’s D. K. Shinde School of Social Work, who voluntarily visited Kolhapur Cancer Centre – Cancer Centers of America (KCC–CCA) to interact with our elderly patients, share flowers and create awareness about the importance of care and dignity in later life.

These moments of connection remind us that compassion is an essential part of healthcare. For older adults, being heard, respected and supported can make a meaningful difference to their care experience.
