DAY 2 of National Bone and Joint Week 2026
Can you sit cross legged after both knee replacement surgery?
This is a very common query that we get especially in the Indian scenario.
The answer however is not so simple and depends on multiple factors, broadly:
1. PATIENT RELATED FACTORS.
- Preoperative knee range of motion is one of the single most important predictors of knee flexion post surgery.
- Rehabilitation and physical therapy also contributes significantly to the range of motion gained after surgery.
2. SURGEON RELATED FACTORS.
- Meticulous surgical technique with proper ligament balancing avoiding excessive soft tissue tightness are important.
- Appropriate component positioning and restoration of joint line is pivotal.
3. IMPLANT RELATED FACTORS.
- High-flexion designs may facilitate deep flexion in selected patients, although evidence of clear superiority is mixed.
What are your inputs regarding this issue? Let's discuss.
Ps: Clinical images and videos have been posted with informed patient consent. It must be kept in mind that cross legged sitting is not guaranteed even after an excellent surgery.
