Amity University Kolkata is pleased to mark the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Paushtik Life and the Kolkata Society for Cultural Heritage KSCH. This association reflects a shared commitment to fostering education, cultural preservation, community well-being, sustainability and meaningful social engagement.

At a time when academic disciplines and societal challenges are becoming increasingly interconnected, partnerships of this nature provide opportunities to bring together the strengths of academia, industry, civil society and local communities. They encourage the exchange of knowledge, experience and ideas while helping students connect classroom learning with practical and socially relevant contexts.

The collaboration holds considerable relevance for tourism and hospitality, particularly in areas such as cultural and heritage tourism, responsible tourism, wellness tourism, rural tourism, destination development and community-based tourism. By integrating culture, sustainability, wellness and local participation, the partnership may contribute to a more inclusive understanding of tourism—one that respects heritage, supports communities and promotes responsible development. Its scope also extends to disciplines such as management, entrepreneurship, nutrition and wellness, environmental studies, social sciences, communication, cultural studies, education and community development. This interdisciplinary approach can help students appreciate the close relationship between cultural identity, healthy living, ecological responsibility, livelihood creation and social inclusion.

The MoU may open avenues for joint research, workshops, seminars, internships, field visits, training programmes, documentation projects and community-oriented initiatives. Such engagements can offer students valuable experiential learning while enabling faculty members and partner organisations to jointly explore sustainable responses to contemporary challenges. The association also recognises the importance of preserving both tangible and intangible heritage. Traditional knowledge, local food practices, crafts, performing arts, cultural narratives and community memories are valuable elements of our shared identity. Supported through education, research and responsible enterprise, they can become meaningful sources of learning, creativity, dignity and sustainable livelihoods.

Another important dimension of the collaboration is its emphasis on holistic well-being. Nutrition, sustainable lifestyles, cultural rootedness, environmental awareness and community participation are closely connected to the development of a healthy and responsible society. Bringing these areas together can help nurture professional competence alongside empathy, ethical leadership, cultural sensitivity and social responsibility.

The coming together of the three organisations was facilitated by Amity Institute of Travel & Tourism Kolkata with the encouragement and support of all the concerned stakeholders. AITTK remains grateful to the leadership and representatives of Amity University Kolkata, Paushtik Life and the Kolkata Society for Cultural Heritage for their trust, cooperation and shared willingness to explore this association. 🌍 **FIVE DAYS. FIVE PERSPECTIVES. ONE DEFINING DEBATE.**

The **Amity Institute of Travel & Tourism (AITTK), Amity University Kolkata**, successfully organized a five-day online Faculty Development Programme titled:

**“The Discipline Named Tourism: Debates on Identity, Boundaries and Nomenclature”**

Held from **27–31 July 2026**, the programme created an intellectually stimulating platform for educators, researchers and tourism professionals to revisit a fundamental question: *What gives tourism its distinct identity as an academic discipline?*

Across five days of meaningful dialogue, the programme moved beyond conventional definitions and explored the evolving boundaries, emerging knowledge domains and future direction of tourism studies.

🔹 **Day 1:** *Teaching Travel Beyond Textbooks: Travel Philosophy and Experiential Tourism*
The opening session encouraged participants to view tourism education beyond prescribed texts—through lived experiences, philosophical inquiry and meaningful engagement with destinations and communities.

🔹 **Day 2:** *Emerging Knowledge Domains in Tourism*
The discussion highlighted the changing tourism landscape and the need for academic programmes to respond to new knowledge areas, industry transformations and emerging professional realities.

🔹 **Day 3:** *Re-imagining Tourism Studies in an Era of Global Transformation*
The session examined how social, technological and global changes are reshaping tourism scholarship, research and classroom practices.

🔹 **Day 4:** *Who Owns Tourism? Repositioning the Discipline*
This thought-provoking dialogue questioned tourism’s relationship with management, geography, sociology, anthropology and other disciplines while emphasizing the need to strengthen its independent academic identity.

🔹 **Day 5:** *Tourism Studies in an Age of Disciplinary Expansion—What Remains Distinctively Tourism?*
The concluding session brought the central debate into sharp focus, inviting reflection on the distinctive concepts, perspectives and approaches that define tourism studies.

This year, Amity Institute of Travel & Tourism Kolkata envisioned its farewell differently on 19th May 2026.

“The Final Boarding Call” was not designed as a conventional celebration alone, but as a reflective industry–academia interaction that acknowledged transition, continuity, and the evolving realities of higher education in specialized disciplines.

The occasion carried a unique significance for the department. Alongside students preparing to step into internships and professional spaces, the programme also marked the graduation of the outgoing postgraduate cohort at a time when tourism education itself is navigating shifting institutional priorities, changing enrolment patterns, emerging industry expectations, and broader structural transformations across academia.
Rather than responding with sentimentality, the department chose to respond with meaning.

The event brought together students, parents, faculty members, and industry professionals within the same space — creating a conversation around professional identity, adaptability, emotional preparedness, and the uncertain yet exciting pathways that define tourism careers today. In many ways, it became less of a farewell and more of a moment of collective reflection.

Academic disciplines often evolve quietly. Some expand rapidly; others undergo periods of pause, restructuring, reconsideration, or reinvention. Yet behind every programme are years of classroom discussions, field experiences, mentorship, institutional effort, industry collaborations, and the aspirations of students who become part of its journey. These dimensions are not always visible within formal statistics, but they remain deeply embedded within the lived culture of a department.

Perhaps that is what made this year’s farewell feel different.
It was not centred on scale.
It was centred on significance.

“The Final Boarding Call” ultimately stood as a reminder that education is not defined solely through numbers, but also through the depth of engagement, resilience, professional grooming, and human connections that institutions continue to nurture even during periods of transition.

Some journeys conclude formally.
Some continue quietly in new forms.
And some leave behind reflections that become part of the institution’s evolving story.

🌍 The Tourism Professional Lab: Building Future-Ready Tourism Professionals

The Amity Institute of Travel & Tourism Kolkata (AITTK) organized “The Tourism Professional Lab,” a three-day Career Readiness and Industry Preparation Series, from 6–8 May 2026.

The initiative was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice by providing students with valuable exposure to international perspectives, industry expectations, career guidance and alumni experiences.
