How Alcohol + Obesity Combined Impact
Cirrhosis
Alcohol intake and obesity are independent risk factors for morbidity among patients with cirrhosis, but the two factors do not appear to combine for a stronger effect (supra-additive), according to conclusions from a new analysis of participants in the UK Biobank study published in Hepatology and reviewed on Medscape (tap link in bio for full report.)
Overall, harmful drinking was associated with 5.0 times the 10-year cumulative incidence of cirrhosis morbidity among harmful versus safe drinkers.
However, among those with a healthy BMI, harmful was associated with an 8.6-fold increase of cirrhosis morbidity, compared with safe drinkers.
On the other hand, obese patients with harmful drinking habits had a 3.6-fold increase over obese safe drinkers.
When looked at according to BMI, 10-year cumulative incidence was 3.1 times higher in patients who with obesity versus those who with healthy BMI.
This varied with drinking status.
Safe drinkers who with obesity had 3.7 times the incidence, compared with safe drinkers with healthy BMI, and harmful drinkers who were obese had a 1.4-fold increased incidence, compared with harmful drinkers of a healthy weight.
In summation, the researchers found that In contrast to some previous studies, there is little evidence that obesity and drinking interacted supra-additively to modulate the risk of cirrhosis morbidity.

Amid the cases of ‘highly mutated’ Omicron cases growing rapidly in the country and the world, the threat from the Delta variant still exists. While it is claimed that the spread of the Omicron variant is much more than the Delta variant of covid, another variant has come to the fore. The double mutation variation of COVID-19 which has emerged has been given the name Delmicron.

What is Delmicron?

Delmicron is the double variant of Covid that is spreading increasingly in the West. This name has been derived by combining Corona’s Delta Variant and Omicron Variant because at present these both variants are being found all over the world including India.

How Delmicron is different from Omicron?

Omicron is a highly mutated B.1.1.529 form of SARS-CoV-2, which was first discovered in South Africa. This variant spread faster and currently showing milder symptoms than Delta, as per the researches. The mortality rate is even lower than the Delta variant, while Delmicron is the result of combining Delta and Omicron which is basically the twin spike of the variants across the world and that is how Delmicron is different from Omicron.

Omicron variant: Symptoms

While research is still under process over Omicron and its severity, there are four common symptons witnessed in the patients — cough, fatigue, congestion and runny nose. The CDC’s list of COVID-19 symptoms also includes muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhoea. Asymptomatic infections are also common.

Symptoms of Delmicron

Very simply put as it is a nomenclature created by merging the Delta and Omicron versions of coronavirus , there are no different symptoms.

Those suffering from the Omicron or Delta variant, more or less complain of the same symptoms:

A high temperature
A persistent cough
A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
Headache
Runny nose
Sore throat
Studies have shown that both the Delta and Omicron variants are easily transmissible. In fact, UK government scientists in a study said that Britons who fall ill with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus are less likely to become severely sick than those who contract Delta.

CoviSelf was created by the Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions Ltd

The test kit was approved by the ICMR on Wednesday

The test kit will be available by next week in over seven lakh pharmcies

New Delhi:

CoviSelf - India's first self-use Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) kit - will take two minutes to carry out the test and results will be available in 15 minutes, the Pune-based firm that produced the kit said.

The test kit was approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) - the nodal body in the fight against the virus - on Wednesday.

"It takes two minutes to conduct test and 15 minutes to get result. It will be available by end of next week in more than seven lakh pharmacies and our online pharmacy partners across India. Our target is to reach 90 per cent pin code in India," Sujeet Jain, Director of Mylab Discovery Solutions - the firm that produced the kit - was quoted by news agency ANI.

This test is for self-use. If you test positive via this there is no need for RT-PCR test, as per ICMR. Any adult can use this kit by reading our manual," he added.

Only symptomatic individuals and immediate contacts of people who have tested positive in laboratory-conducted tests should use this kit, the ICMR has said. "Indiscriminate testing is not advised," the top medical body said while issuing detailed guidelines on the kit's use.

All symptomatic individuals who test negative by RAT should get themselves immediately tested by RT-PCR," the ICMR added.

CoviSelf test results will have to be uploaded to a mobile app that can be downloaded from Google's Play Store or the Apple Store, the ICMR said.
All users are advised to click a picture of the test strip after completing the test procedure with the same mobile phone," the nodal body said.

Data transmitted by the phone will be centrally captured in a secure server that is connected to the ICMR's COVID-19 testing portal, where all data will be eventually stored.

A 32-year-old woman, who was in labour pain and found unconscious near Worli Naka area, delivered a baby inside a police van late on Tuesday. Officials said three policewomen and a pedestrian helped save the ailing pregnant woman and her newborn, as she was in need of urgent medication.

Police identified the woman as Pratiksha Kavle, a resident of Anand Nagar at Jijamata Nagari in Worli. An officer from Worli police station said they found the woman in distress after a local resident informed the police control room.
