Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival and yet currently fewer than half of infants under 6mths old are exclusively breastfed.

World Breastfeeding week is an annual celebration which is held every year from 1to7 August in more than 120 countries.

The 2026 theme for
the World Breastfeeding week
is "Breastfeeding for a sustainable start in life: strengthen what works"

The Bengal Obstetric & Gynaecological Society and Indian Society of Perinatology & Reproductive Biology, Kolkata Chapter jointly organise a CME on 5th August 2026 at Medical College, Kolkata. The event brought together obstetricians, neonatologists and other medical professionals. The chief guest of the program was West Bengal Health and Family Welfare minister Dr Sharadwat Mukherjee.
