๐ŸŽ‰ Congratulations to our team on another exciting publication!

We are delighted to share that our latest review article has been published in EMBO Reports.

๐Ÿ“– Title: Metabolites with a message: impacts on epigenetics and implications for epimetabopathies
๐Ÿ“ฐ Journal: EMBO Reports
โœ๏ธ Authors: Indrakshi Banerjee, Atanu Mondal, Siddhesh S. Kamat & Chandrima Das

This review highlights the emerging role of mitochondrial metabolites as signalling molecules that communicate with the nucleus to regulate epigenetic modifications, genome stability, and cellular stress responses. It explores how metabolic intermediates influence chromatin architecture, gene expression, DNA repair, and inter-organ communication, while introducing the concept of โ€œepimetabopathiesโ€โ€”diseases driven by disrupted metabolic-epigenetic crosstalk. The article also discusses the therapeutic potential of targeting these pathways for future diagnostics and precision medicine.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the authors for this significant contribution to the field.

A special note of gratitude to our corresponding authors, Prof. Chandrima Das and Prof. Siddhesh S. Kamat, for their outstanding leadership, scientific vision, and mentorship throughout this work. Their guidance has been instrumental in shaping this comprehensive review and advancing our understanding of metabolismโ€“epigenetics interplay.

Excited to share our latest work published in Nature Communications!

We identify TCF19 as a key regulator of hepatocyte adaptation to lipotoxic stress, integrating:
โ€ข Fatty acid elongation to reduce lipid toxicity
โ€ข Unfolded Protein Response (UPR) to maintain ER homeostasis

Loss of TCF19 exacerbates ER stress and hepatic dysfunction, while its activity protects against palmitate-induced lipotoxicity.

Conceptual advance: A unified transcriptional node linking lipid remodeling with proteostasis in metabolic liver disease.

A huge congratulations to Atanu for driving this work, and to the entire team and collaborators for their effort and dedication. Special thanks to our PI, Prof. Chandrima Das, for her constant guidance and support throughout this study.

๐ŸŒŸ Proud Moment for the Lab!
Congratulations to Professor Chandrima Das on being elected Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) at the 2025 Annual General Meeting.
A remarkable recognition of her contributions to science and scholarship.

Warmest congratulations from all of us at the lab.

We are happy to share our most recent study, "Protocol for 3D tumor spheroid generation, immunostaining, and imaging through comparative approaches," which was published in STAR PROTOCOLS. In this study, we established lab-grown methods for generating, harvesting, staining, and analyzing multicellular tumor spheroids generated from different cell lines. Here, we also compared and contrasted different approaches to stain and analyse MCTS depending on the experimental needs.
Many congratulations to Atanu, Sandhik, Bipasa, Indrakshi, and Wasim for successfully steering the project towards completion. Also, many thanks to our PI, Chandrima Das, for her guidance and support.

๐ŸŒŸ Heartiest Congratulations to Prof. Chandrima Das on being elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA)! ๐ŸŒŸ

Her pioneering contributions in unraveling the connections between the epigenome, cancer, matrix remodeling, and immune signaling have been truly inspiring. We, her students, are proud to celebrate this prestigious recognition and fortunate to learn under her guidance. ๐Ÿ™Œ

We are happy to share our most recent study, "The Hypoxia-Induced Chromatin Reader ZMYND8 Drives HIF-Dependent Metabolic Rewiring in Breast Cancer," which was published in JBC. In this study, we examined how the epigenetic factor ZMYND8 contributes to the metabolome rewiring of breast cancer. Our finding suggests that epigenetic factors in cancer cells can modulate the tumor microenvironment by modulating the metabolic status of cancer cells.
Many congratulations to Sandhik and Atanu for successfully steering the project towards completion. Congratulations to Indrakshi and Wasim for their contribution to this work.

We are happy to announce our latest publication of Ms. Sinjini Dhang and Mr. Atanu Mondal entitled โ€œMetformin inhibits the histone methyltransferase CARM1 and attenuates H3 histone methylation during gluconeogenesis,โ€ published in the .
The article depicts how the well-known drug metformin inhibits the epigenetic regulator CARM1, leading to a reduction in histone methylation. This process subsequently suppresses gluconeogenic genes, resulting in decreased glucose production in the liver.
