Sometimes, a substance known as a toxin can become a powerful medicine when used with precision and expertise. Botulinum toxin is one such example.
While it is widely known for its role in managing muscle stiffness (spasticity) after conditions like stroke and other neurological disorders, its applications now extend far beyond that. Today, it is also an evidence-based treatment for conditions such as chronic migraine, offering relief and improving quality of life for many patients.
Its effectiveness is further enhanced when administered under ultrasound guidance, allowing accurate delivery to the target muscle for safer and more precise treatment.
I was delighted to attend an academic session organized by the Institute of Neurosciences, where experts from multiple specialties shared the latest advances and evidence-based practices in botulinum toxin therapy. It was an enriching learning experience that will help me provide even better care to my patients.
