Pop culture loves to turn schizophrenia into a horror movie trope or a punchline. But the reality?

The reality is a college student trying to finish their degree.
A parent trying to pack lunches.
An artist trying to create.
It's ordinary people doing their best to navigate an extraordinarily complex condition.

This "World Schizophrenia Day", let’s drop the stereotypes and remember that everyone is fighting a battle we know nothing about.

A little patience and a lot less judgment can change someone’s entire world.

Mental health challenges are often surrounded by deep misconceptions that create fear, delay critical care, and isolate those who need support the most.

This May, for Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s time to separate myth from fact and replace assumptions with empathy.

Many people still believe that mental health conditions are a sign of personal weakness or a character flaw, but the reality is that mental illness involves complex biological, genetic, and environmental factors just like any physical illness.

Seeking help is an incredible act of courage, not a failure of willpower. Similarly, telling someone to just snap out of it or think positively ignores the reality of disorders like depression and anxiety, which often require professional therapy or medical treatment rather than simple pressure to improve.
Another common misunderstanding is that talking about mental health only makes things worse, when in truth, open and supportive conversations are the very foundation of healing.
Suffering in silence only prolongs the struggle, while. Sharing experiences helps reduce isolation.

Let's commit to supporting one another, dispelling harmful misconceptions, and creating safe spaces to speak openly.

Your Mental Health matters every single day, not just in May, so please take active steps to care for your mind and never hesitate to reach out for support.

At Compassionate Canvas Services Foundation, we spend a lot of time talking about resilience.
But this Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to talk about something just as vital: finding your anchor. ⚓️

In the nonprofit space, and in life, we often face heavy tides—systemic challenges, personal hardships, burnout, and collective grief.
It’s easy to feel like you’re treading water, trying to keep everyone else afloat while losing your own bearings.

But true mental wellness isn't about learning to swim through a hurricane without tiring. It’s about knowing when and where to drop your anchor.

If you are feeling adrift this May, please remember that reaching out for support is not a weakness - it is an act of profound courage. You cannot pour from an empty cup, & you cannot sail a ship that is sinking.

Let us be a part of your anchor. Our doors, our resources, & our community are here for you. Always đź’ź

If you are living with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), you know how exhausting it is to constantly feel like you are at the mercy of an emotional tidal wave. One minute you’re okay, and the next, a shift in someone's tone or a delayed text triggers an overwhelming rush of panic, anger, or deep sadness.

Here is a gentle, vital reminder for today: Your feelings are valid, but they are not facts.

When an emotional storm hits, BPD convinces you that your worst fears are absolute truths. It tells you that someone is abandoning you, that you are inherently flawed, or that things will never get better. What you are feeling in those moments is incredibly real, heavy, and painful—and no one can take the validity of that pain away from you. But the story your brain is spinning about why it’s happening? That is often the BPD talking, not reality.

Your mind is a masterpiece, but it’s also a bit of a drama queen. 🎭✨
Ever had a tiny setback feel like the end of the world? Or assumed someone was mad at you just because they used a period instead of an exclamation point? Welcome to the world of Cognitive Distortions.
These are essentially "glitches" in our thinking—shortcuts our brains take when we’re stressed that trade accuracy for speed. When we’re stuck in these loops, our emotional reactivity sky-rockets. We aren't reacting to reality; we’re reacting to a biased version of it.

The most common culprits:
Catastrophizing: Turning a "what if" into a "world ending."
Black & White Thinking: Believing if it’s not perfect, it’s a failure.
Mind Reading: Deciding what others think of you without actually asking.
Emotional Reasoning: "I feel anxious, therefore I am in danger." (Spoiler: Feelings are data, not always facts!)

Which one of these distortions do you catch yourself doing the most? Let’s talk about it in the comments.

(Cognitive distortion, black and white thinking, emotional regulation, emotional reactivity, intense)

She understands everyone’s needs. Who understands hers?_

A mother knows when you’re hungry before you say it. She senses your stress, your fever, your silence. But her needs — rest, health, time, to be heard — often go unspoken. Unseen.

This Mother’s Day, change the question.
Don’t just say “Thank you”.
Ask: “What do YOU need?”
