International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Observed at Kulgam

DC Kulgam Presides Over Awareness-cum-Counselling Programme

KULGAM, JUNE 27:

Social Welfare Department, in collaboration with the District Administration Kulgam, organized an awareness-cum-counselling programme on various aspects of drug abuse at the Auditorium-cum-Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat, Kulgam, to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking-2026.

Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Shahzad Alam presided over the programme as the Chief Guest, while the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Viqar Ahmad Giri Kulgam attended as the Guest of Honour.

Resource persons from Government Degree College Kulgam, ATF Kulgam, DLSA Kulgam and Government Higher Secondary School Yaripora addressed the gathering and sensitized participants about the harmful effects of drug abuse, preventive measures and the importance of counselling and rehabilitation support.

The programme witnessed active participation of ASHA workers from the Health Department, Anganwadi workers from the ICDS Department and students from various schools and colleges.

On the occasion, the Nasha Mukt Pledge was administered to all participants, reaffirming their collective resolve to work towards a drug-free society under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.

A one-day Awareness cm Counseling Program on Mental Health and Drug De-addiction was conducted by the Mental Health Unit, DH Kulgam at Govt. Higher Secondary School Kilam on 24 June 2026.
The programme aimed to enhance awareness among students about mental health, stress management, substance abuse prevention, and the importance of seeking timely help for psychological concerns. Interactive counseling sessions were held, allowing students to discuss their issues and receive guidance from the mental health team.

Awareness cm counseling programme on Su***de Prevention was conducted today on 22 May 2026 by the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) Kulgam. The programme focused on creating awareness regarding mental health, early identification of warning signs of su***de, stress management, emotional well-being, and the importance of seeking timely professional help. Participants were also counseled on coping strategies, family support, and available mental health services. The programme aimed to promote awareness, reduce stigma related to mental illness, and encourage a supportive community environment for su***de prevention.

Awareness cm counseling program on Suicidal Ideation and mental health was conducted by the District Mental Health Unit, DH Kulgam at Government Higher Sec. School Bugam today on 15th May 2026.
The program focused on su***de prevention, early identification of emotional distress, stress management, and the importance of seeking timely psychological support. Students and staff were sensitized about mental health awareness, coping skills, and available mental health services under the District Mental Health Programme.
