Severe Obesity Made Her Pregnancy High Risk, but It Did Not Rule Out a Vaginal Birth

We recently cared for a 40-year-old patient with severe obesity, weighing 120 kg with a BMI of approximately 45. Her pregnancy required close monitoring, early screening, personalised counselling, fetal surveillance, and careful planning for labour and delivery.

Although obesity increases pregnancy-related risks and the likelihood of operative delivery, it does not automatically mean a Caesarean section is necessary. With reassuring maternal and fetal conditions, she successfully delivered a healthy baby vaginally.

Every high-risk pregnancy deserves evidence-based decisions tailored to the patient, not assumptions. Read the full story in our latest blog on the website or scan the QR code.

Your 30s are a great time to make preventive healthcare a habit.

Many conditions like thyroid disorders, vitamin deficiencies, anaemia, and diabetes can develop gradually without obvious symptoms. A few routine blood tests each year can help identify potential concerns early and support timely treatment.

Here are five essential tests every woman over 30 should discuss with her doctor:
✔ Thyroid Profile
✔ Vitamin D
✔ Complete Blood Count (CBC)
✔ Blood Sugar (HbA1c/Fasting Blood Sugar)
✔ Iron Profile

Early detection leads to better health outcomes. Save this post as a reminder for your next annual check-up, and share it with someone who should see it.
