A little extra salt today can become a bigger health concern over time.
Did you know that too much salt can raise your blood pressure and increase your risk of heart disease and stroke?
The tricky part? Salt isn't just in the salt shaker. It can also hide in packaged snacks, instant noodles, pickles, papad, sauces and processed foods.
Here are 4 simple ways to protect your heart:
- Reduce the extra salt you add to meals.
- Choose fresh, home-cooked food more often.
- Check sodium levels on packaged food labels.
- Use herbs, lemon and spices to add flavour instead of relying on extra salt.
Your heart doesn't need more salt. It needs better choices.
This is Day 13 of our 30-Day Heart Health Challenge by Dr. Dileep Verma, Safal Clinic & Wellness Center.
The WHO recommends adults consume less than 5 grams of salt per day (approximately one teaspoon from all food sources combined).
Your small daily choices can make a meaningful difference to your long-term heart health.
