First Trimester, Explained — Part 1
First Pregnancy Visit: Timing and Expectations

A question almost every patient asks at their first visit: "How far along am I, exactly?"

In Part 1 of this series, Dr. Bhumika Bansal explains how pregnancy duration is calculated, starting from the first day of your last period, and how the 40 weeks are divided into three trimesters.

Watch now. Follow along for the rest of the series.

Placental abruption and placenta previa. Two different conditions that often get mixed up.

Placental abruption means the placenta separates from the uterus before birth, usually with sudden pain and bleeding together.

Placenta previa means the placenta covers the cervix, and it's usually painless bleeding that brings it to attention.

Knowing the difference helps you recognise when to seek care right away.

"I've had a C-section before, so I can't have keyhole surgery." This is one of the most common assumptions we hear, and it isn't always true.

With a proper evaluation, many women remain good candidates for laparoscopic surgery even after a previous C-section.

The safest option is always decided case by case, not ruled out beforehand.

Ever felt dizzy standing up too fast during pregnancy? You're not alone, and it's more common than you'd think.

A drop in blood pressure during pregnancy can happen because of hormonal changes, dehydration, poor nutrition, or sudden movement.

The good news? Small habits like drinking enough water and standing up slowly can make a real difference.

Monsoon fevers often get brushed off as "just the season." In pregnancy, that's worth reconsidering. 🌧️

Fever during pregnancy, especially in the monsoon months, can sometimes point to infections like dengue. It's not something to wait out at home.

If you or someone you know is pregnant and running a fever, a quick check-up is always the safer choice.

If UTIs keep coming back no matter how careful you are, you're not imagining it, and it's not your fault.

Several factors beyond hygiene can be behind it: hormonal shifts, diabetes, certain anatomical reasons, or bacteria that have become resistant to common antibiotics.

Recurrent UTIs deserve a proper look into the cause, not just another round of the same treatment.

PCOS does not look the same in every woman. And that is completely okay.

One woman may notice irregular periods, acne, or unwanted hair growth, while another may have less obvious symptoms and seek help for concerns related to ovulation, weight, or conception.

This is why comparing your PCOS journey with someone else's can often create more confusion.

The right approach is to understand your own symptoms, overall health, and individual concerns rather than trying to fit into a fixed checklist.

This PCOS Awareness Month, take the time to understand your body and don't hesitate to seek medical advice when you have concerns about your periods, hormones, or reproductive health. drbhumikabansal.com

"Will the scan harm my baby?"

It's a question we hear often, and the answer is reassuring. 🤍

Ultrasound doesn't use radiation at all. It works through sound waves, the same technology used safely in medicine for decades, to check how your baby is growing.

So the next time your doctor recommends a scan, you can walk in with confidence, not worry.
