OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER

OCD is not about being clean or organized. 🧠
Let me tell you what it actually is.

A thought enters your mind — uninvited.
Again. And again. And again.
'Did I turn off the gas?'
'What if I hurt someone?'
Intrusive sexual thoughts.
Blasphemous thoughts about God.
The patient never chose these thoughts.
They just come.
Then comes the anxiety.
Then the compulsion — to check, to wash, to repeat.
Temporary relief.
Then the thought returns.

This loop has a name in neuroscience —
Cortico-Striato-Thalamo-Cortical Circuit dysfunction.
Not weakness. Not drama.
A specific brain circuit — stuck on repeat.

The most important thing?
OCD is common. And completely treatable.
With the right medication and therapy.

Have you or someone you know experienced this?

Hi there! 👋 Since we’ll be seeing each other on your feed, let’s skip the formal CV for a second.

I’m Dr. Parul Saxena .Yes, I’m a Medical Doctor and a Psychiatrist, but outside the clinic, I’m just a human who cares deeply about making mental health education safe, accurate, and accessible.

There is a lot of misinformation out there right now, and finding real answers can feel overwhelming. I started this space to change that. Think of this page as your go-to resource for clinical clarity, minus the clinical judgment.

We will talk about mental health and how your brain actually works.

Welcome to the space. I’m so glad you’re here.

Let's break the ice: Drop a comment below and let me know where in the world you are tuning in from! 📍👇

How to build SECURE ATTACHMENT🌸🌸

Nobody is born with anxious or avoidant attachment. 🧠
It was taught.
Through absence.
Through inconsistency.
Through love that came with conditions.

But here's what psychiatry also knows-
what was learned can be unlearned.

Here's how 👇

One — Recognise your pattern.
Ask yourself honestly —
do you chase love or run from it?
Awareness is the first act of healing.

Two — Find one safe relationship.
A therapist. A friend. A partner who stays.
Your brain needs one new experience —
that closeness doesn't always end in pain.

Three — Listen to your body.
When your partner doesn't reply and you spiral —
that panic is not about today.
That is your 6-year-old self speaking.
Learn to tell the difference.

This is called Earned Secure Attachment.

And it is one of the most powerful concepts in psychiatry. 🧠

You are not your pattern.
You are what happens after you recognise it. 💙
Save this. You will need it. 🔖

You didn't fall for the wrong person by accident.
You fell for what felt familiar. 🧠

And familiar was built long before you ever went on a first date.

➡️Conditional love taught you to seek approval.
➡️Emotional neglect taught you to fear closeness.
➡️Unpredictability taught you to call anxiety — love.

This is not your fault.❌
This is Anxious and Avoidant Attachment.
And it can change.✅
Tag someone who needs to hear this. 💙

Stay tuned for Part 2 where I will explain how to build SECURE ATTACHMENT 🌸

STRESS AWARENESS MONTH🌸
Not all stress is bad. Your brain actually needs some of it.
Eustress — the stress of a new challenge, a deadline, an exciting opportunity — sharpens your brain. It’s fuel.
Distress — chronic, uncontrollable, relentless stress — shrinks your hippocampus and floods your brain with cortisol. This is the one that damages.
The problem? We Indians treat both as a badge of honour.
Here’s what actually helps — from a psychiatric standpoint:
→ Name your stress in writing. Affect labelling activates the prefrontal cortex and calms the amygdala. Your brain literally self-regulates.
→ Break isolation deliberately. Cortisol rises in loneliness. One real conversation daily — not a text, not a scroll — is a clinical prescription.
→ Protect your sleep non-negotiably. Sleep deprivation spikes stress hormones by up to 40%. Sleep is not rest. It is your brain’s repair window.
These are not just wellness tips. This is neuroscience.
And if despite all this — your sleep is broken, anxiety won’t stop, your mood won’t lift — that is no longer just stress. That may be a psychiatric condition that needs proper evaluation.
Don’t carry it alone. Consult a Psychiatrist ASAP!

The GOD COMPLEX👑

The most dangerous person in the room isn't the loudest one.
It's the one who believes the rules were never made for them.
Psychiatry has had a name for this for decades.
The world is just now catching up. 🧠
Save this. Share this with someone who needs to see it.
Comment the one word that came to your mind. 👇

7 years.

That's how long the average Indian patient waits before reaching a psychiatrist.

Not because help isn't available.
Because somewhere along the way, someone told them psychiatrists are only for the "mad."
So they go to a general physician first.
Then a neurologist.
Then a faith healer.

And by the time they reach me , depression has become chronic, psychosis has damaged the brain, relationships are broken.

The "golden period" the window where treatment works best is gone.
I see this every single week in my clinic.

Mental illness is not a character flaw. It is a medical condition.
Your brain is an organ. It deserves a specialist.

If you or someone you know has been struggling for months and hasn't sought help yet , this is your sign.

DM me. I'm here.

As a Psychiatrist, I have explained why Xylazine is known as the Zombie drug👇🏻

What happens in the brain?

Alpha-2 receptors get blocked.
Norepinephrine shuts down.
Body freezes.
Eyes stay open — brain is functioning.
But nothing responds.

That's why — zombie.

But the real zombie effect?
This.

At the injection site —
blood vessels shut down.
Oxygen can't reach the tissue.
Tissue starts to die.

First — a small bruise.
Then — a deep wound.
Then — all the way to the bone.

And sometimes —
the hand or leg has to be amputated.

The body rots.
While the person is still alive.

That is why — zombie drug.

And the most dangerous fact,

For Xylazine — No approved antidote exists yet
Its use can be life threatening.

Now — the honest truth about India.

The Chandigarh,Bengaluru and Bihar videos —
not officially confirmed yet.

A doctor's job is not
to spread panic —
it is to give facts.

But I can say this with certainty —

This drug exists.
It is being sold globally.
And we must be prepared to deal with it by increasing our Awareness.

Chandigarh. Bengaluru. Bihar
A man stood motionless for 2 hours —
didn't move. Eyes wide open.

Like a ZOMBIE!

What is 'zombie drug'?

Xylazine —
a drug used in animal surgery.
NOT approved for humans.

But it's being mixed into
he**in and fentanyl
and sold on the streets.
The person taking it
doesn't even know.

It leads to deleterious effects- Body and Brain stop responding, ulcerations near injection sites.

Stay tuned for Part 2 where I'll explain why this drug caused zombie like features and if there's any treatment available.
