The cancer may be in the mouth or neck… but sometimes the toughest part of treatment is the mouth ulcers that follow. 💔
Many patients undergoing radiation therapy for head and neck cancer develop painful mouth sores (oral mucositis).
Simple things suddenly become difficult:
❌ Eating food
❌ Drinking water
❌ Speaking comfortably
❌ Maintaining nutrition and energy
These ulcers are not a sign that the treatment is failing.
In fact, they are a common side effect because radiation affects rapidly dividing cells inside the mouth and throat.
The good news?
With proper care, these symptoms can often be managed. 🩺
Pain management, good oral hygiene, nutritional support, hydration, and timely medical treatment can make a significant difference and help patients continue their cancer treatment more comfortably.
The most important thing is this:
Don't suffer in silence.
If mouth pain, ulcers, or difficulty swallowing develops during radiation therapy, tell your oncology team early. The sooner we know, the sooner we can help
Save this reel and share it with someone undergoing radiation therapy for mouth or neck cancer. It may make their treatment journey a little easier.
