A 6-year-old child came to us with a severe, painful scalp condition โ swelling, pus, oozing, intense itching, high-grade fever and septicaemia.
Before visiting us, the child had been treated at multiple skin centres and was diagnosed at different times as:
โ Seborrheic dermatitis
โ Alopecia areata
โ Impetigo
The child had also received multiple courses of antibiotics and steroids, but the condition continued to worsen.
๐ Our Diagnosis: KERION
On detailed clinical evaluation, Dr. Shivani diagnosed the condition as Kerion โ a severe inflammatory form of fungal infection of the scalp.
The immediate priority was to manage the systemic infection/septicaemia and stabilize the child.
Once the acute condition was controlled, an individualized Ayurvedic treatment and dietary approach was started, with close monitoring. Steroids and unnecessary antibiotic therapy were discontinued under medical supervision.
๐ฑ The RESULT AFTER 8 WEEKS
โจ Scalp lesions significantly healed
โจ Pus and oozing resolved
โจ Pain and itching settled
โจ Scarring started improving
โจ New hair growth began
โจ Recovery is continuing
โค๏ธ Most importantly โ the child and family are happy with the progress!
Kerion should never be mistaken for simple dandruff or routine scalp dermatitis. Early recognition and appropriate treatment are essential to prevent permanent scarring and hair loss.
๐ฟ Right diagnosis. Individualized treatment. Patient-centred care.
