MEA urges Indian students abroad to register with Embassies for faster emergency support
The ministry is now considering changes to the existing portal or the launch of a separate platform designed specifically for Indians travelling abroad for higher education and employment.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly advises Indian students studying abroad to register with their local Indian Embassy and on the MADAD Portal. This voluntary registration allows the government to establish a database for quicker emergency support, grievance redressal, and evacuation during international crises or conflicts.Pre-Departure & Educational Advisory university Accreditation: Always verify if the foreign university or college is fully accredited and recognized in the host country to avoid unverified or fake institutions.Medical Studies Check: If pursuing medicine, ensure the degree allows you to practice in India by consulting the regulations set by regulatory bodies like the National Medical Commission (NMC).Visa Requirements: Secure the appropriate student visa and carry all necessary academic and financial documents for border entry.On-Campus & Legal Responsibilities local Laws: Familiarize yourself with the local rules, customs, and laws of your destination to avoid legal complications.Acquaintance Check: Be cautious of unverified job prospects or misleading academic programs. Verify authenticity through official missions if unsure.Emergency Support & Grievances embassy Assistance: Indian Missions assist distressed students through 24/7 emergency helplines, walk-ins, emails, social media, and local Open Houses.Grievance Redressal: If you face adverse experiences, misleading programs, or harassment, immediately report the incident to the local Indian Mission/Post.
