Is your child ready for formal school or only age ready?

School readiness is not only about age.
A child also needs support with sitting tolerance, following simple instructions, communication, routine, separation, sharing and waiting.

Your child does not need to be perfect before school, but observing these small readiness signs can help you understand whether they are ready for the school environment.

If your child struggles with sitting, attention, routine, separation, communication or social interaction, a school readiness assessment can help.

Why is my child always running, jumping or unable to sit still?

Many parents think, “Mera bachcha bas naughty hai.”
But sometimes, constant movement, interrupting, climbing, difficulty sitting, or leaving tasks incomplete may be a sign that the child is struggling with attention, impulse control, body control or sitting tolerance.

Hyperactivity is not always bad behaviour.
It may be the child’s nervous system asking for support.

Before labelling the child, observe the pattern.

If your child finds it difficult to sit, follow instructions, complete tasks, or play calmly, an Occupational Therapy assessment can help understand their needs better.

Eye contact is not always enough.

A child may look at you, but still struggle to follow pointing, respond when you show something, or understand what you are trying to share.

This is where Joint attention matters.

Joint attention helps a child connect with you, the object, and your intention together. It supports speech, understanding, social interaction and learning.

Because the goal is not just eye contact.
The goal is connection.

Agar aapka child eye contact deta hai, but pointing follow nahi karta ya attention share nahi karta, toh developmental assessment helpful ho sakta hai.

Your Child Looks at You… But Are They Connecting?

A child may look at you, but still struggle to follow pointing, share toys, respond to “look here,” or include you during play. This may be related to joint attention, an important foundation for communication, speech, learning and social interaction.

Joint attention helps a child understand:
You + Object + Intention.

So instead of only asking the child to “look at me,” it is important to build shared attention, response, and meaningful connection.

If your child gives eye contact but struggles with pointing, sharing, or responding, a developmental assessment can help.

Therapy progress is not always a straight line.

Sometimes a child improves in speech, sitting tolerance, focus, or behavior… and then suddenly old challenges return — sensory issues, meltdowns, irritability, poor attention, or emotional reactions.

This may not always mean therapy is not working.

Sometimes, the missing foundation can be **primitive reflex integration**.

Primitive reflexes like Moro, ATNR, STNR, Spinal Galant, and TLR are expected to integrate as the child grows. When they remain active, the child’s nervous system may struggle with posture, regulation, sensory processing, attention, and learning.

That is why some children show progress, but the progress does not stay consistent.

When the foundation is unstable, skills built through therapy may not remain strong for the long term.

Primitive reflex integration works through repeated, structured movement patterns that support the nervous system and help the child regulate better.

So if your child is taking therapy but progress keeps going up and down, it may be time to look deeper.

Save this reel and share it with a parent who needs to understand this.

Progress in therapy is not always a straight line.

Sometimes a child improves in speech, sitting tolerance, focus or behavior… and then suddenly old challenges like sensory issues, meltdowns, irritability or poor attention come back.

This does not always mean the therapy is not working.

In some children, retained primitive reflexes may affect nervous system regulation, posture, emotional control, focus and learning. When these early reflexes do not fully integrate, the child may struggle to hold progress consistently.

Your child is not lazy.
Your child is not stubborn.
Their nervous system may simply need deeper support.

If your child’s progress keeps going up and down, a primitive reflex assessment can help identify what is happening beneath the surface.

Save this carousel if you are a parent, therapist or educator supporting a child’s development.

More therapy does not always mean faster progress.

Many parents feel that daily OT, ABA, speech therapy and weekend sessions will help their child improve quickly. But a child’s brain also needs rest, sleep, play, emotional connection and time to process what they are learning.

When therapy becomes back-to-back, the child may be physically present but mentally overloaded. This can lead to irritability, sleep issues, meltdowns, emotional breakdowns or even regression.

Therapy is important, but smart therapy matters more.

The right balance of therapy, sensory breaks, family interaction, free play and home practice can support real progress.

Because children don’t just grow with more therapy.
They grow with the right therapy at the right time.
