Does thyroid disease cause hair loss? Can lost hair grow back? 🤔
One of the most common questions I hear from patients is:
"Doctor, I have thyroid problems. Will the hair I've lost ever grow back?"
The good news is that thyroid-related hair loss does not necessarily mean permanent hair loss. When thyroid hormone levels are not well balanced, they can affect the normal hair growth cycle, leading to increased hair shedding and thinning.
However, thyroid imbalance may not be the only reason behind hair fall.
Other factors such as: • Iron deficiency
• Vitamin D deficiency
• Vitamin B12 deficiency
• Stress
• Hormonal changes
• Other underlying causes
may also contribute to hair loss.
That's why it is important to identify the actual cause of hair fall rather than focusing on thyroid alone.
If you have thyroid disease and are experiencing hair loss—or if your TSH is normal but your hair is still falling—there may be other factors that need to be evaluated.
