From PL to 6/9 — Why we never give up 👁️✨
This lady first presented with a perforated corneal ulcer with corneal melt.
She underwent a therapeutic PK, where the primary goal was simple yet critical — save the eye. That goal was achieved, although the graft eventually failed.
A DSEK was planned, but she did not undergo it at that time.
She later returned with a rare complication — Infectious Crystalline Keratopathy
An indolent, deceptive infection seen post-keratoplasty due to long-term steroid use —
characterized by branching crystalline stromal infiltrates with minimal inflammation, commonly caused by low-virulence organisms like Streptococcus viridans.
➡️ She underwent a repeat therapeutic PK
➡️ Infection was eradicated
➡️ Graft survived
1 month back, we completed her visual rehabilitation with MICS + IOL implantation for cataract.
Yesterday, she walked in smiling 😊
BCVA: 6/9 (20/30) with 3.0 D cyl
👉 From Perception of Light
👉 To functional vision
2 years. Multiple surgeries. One outcome — vision restored.
This is why we do what we do.
Not every case is straightforward. But persistence matters. 🙏
