Presenting a case of mature Cataract in an one eyed (monocular) patient who could barely recognise things...it becomes most challenging cataract surgery for an Ophthalmologist as patient is having vision in only one eye and the most challenging part in this case is that this patient developed a mature Cataract in the only seeing eye.

We performed a topical phacoemulsification with PCIOL implantation with god's grace which was uneventful with quick visual recovery of the patient.
NO PAIN, NO BANDAGE, NO INJECTION

Cataract surgery for one-eyed (monocular) patients is high-stakes but highly successful, often improving functional vision significantly. Though anxiety is common due to risking the only seeing eye.

High Benefit-Risk: Because they rely entirely on one eye, improving vision in that eye can greatly enhance quality of life, but the fear of complication is higher.Safety

Optimal Timing: Surgery is often considered when the cataract interferes significantly with daily life, rather than waiting until it is mature, as the patient’s only functional vision is affected.

Aftercare: Close monitoring and diligent follow-up care are essential to ensure the eye heals perfectly and vision is maximized.

For a one-eyed patient, the goal is safe and effective restoration of vision in the remaining functioning eye, which can result in a significant boost to independence and daily functioning.
