Living Donor Liver Transplant: Restoring Life in Wilson's Disease
This young gentleman underwent a successful living donor liver transplant for decompensated Wilson’s disease with neurological involvement (Neuro-Wilson’s disease). Prior to transplantation, he had significant liver dysfunction along with neurological symptoms that were impacting his quality of life.
His brother-in-law came forward as the living liver donor, making this life-saving surgery possible. Now, just two months after transplant, he has shown remarkable recovery. His liver function has normalized, his overall health has significantly improved, and encouragingly, his neurological symptoms have also shown substantial improvement.
Wilson’s disease often presents a challenge because neurological manifestations are generally considered only partially reversible. However, timely transplantation in selected patients can bring transformative outcomes.
