Atopic Dermatitis isn’t only “dry skin.” It’s a three-way failure.

1️⃣ Filaggrin — the protein that makes your skin’s own moisturizer. Mutate it, and you lose NMF. Skin pH rises. Enzymes start eating your barrier from inside.

2️⃣ Th2 immunity — IL-4 and IL-13 flood in and switch filaggrin off. Barrier breaks → more allergens enter → more IL-4. The loop feeds itself.

3️⃣ Aquaporin-3 — your water channel. Th2 cytokines mislocalise it, so water leaves faster than it enters. You moisturise. Nothing holds.

Then IL-31 hits the nerve endings. The itch isn’t in your head — it’s a cytokine.

This is why steroids alone plateau, and why IL-4Rα and JAK blockade changed the game.

Barrier + immune. Never one without the other.

Skin suddenly sensitive? It’s probably your barrier. 🚨
Products that used to be fine now sting? Redness, flaking, tightness? Your barrier’s compromised — usually from too many actives or too much exfoliation.
The 3-step reset: gentle cleanse · ceramide moisturiser · SPF. Pause the acids for a bit. More actives ≠ better skin.
If it won’t calm in a couple of weeks, see a dermatologist before it spirals.

Your 'dry' flaky scalp is often the opposite: too damp, too much yeast.❄️

YEAST. — not dryness — Malassezia. DAMP. — monsoon scalp flares it. OIL. — feeds it, worsens flakes.🙂‍↕️

Stop oiling the flakes. Oil on a warm, damp, flaky scalp makes dandruff worse, not better. This is the single most common monsoon mistake.🫥

Medicated shampoo, left on. Ketoconazole or zinc pyrithione, a few times a week — and leave it on 3-5 minutes. Rinsing instantly is why it 'doesn't work'.

minutes of contact time. Anti-dandruff shampoo needs to sit to work. Wash regularly, dry the scalp, be consistent for a few weeks.

Rotate, don't scrub. Alternate ketoconazole and zinc pyrithione; never scratch. Consistency clears flakes, aggression inflames.🫴🏻

Flakes hate consistency. Give them some. Save the anti-flake routine. Send it to whoever's oiling their dandruff. Follow for science over hype.✨

Niacinamide won't what it fixes.✨

Niacinamide won't fix everything. Here's what it genuinely fixes.🫴🏻

OIL. — less shine, smaller-looking pores. BARRIER. — more ceramides, calmer skin. MARKS. — fades post-acne pigment.🌿

Low % does the job. 2-5% is where the science sits. Higher isn't better — it just costs more and can flush. Formulation beats a big number.🪜

Mixes fine with vitamin C. The 'they cancel out' rule is outdated. Layer them. Niacinamide plays well with almost everything.💉

weeks to see the quiet wins. It's a slow, reliable helper — not a headline act. Pair with SPF, be patient, keep it simple.

It won't replace SPF or retinoid. Niacinamide supports; it doesn't lead. Sunscreen and a suitable retinoid stay the real workhorses.🙂‍↕️
