A small tradition can sometimes lead to a big problem 👶⚠️
Many parents apply kajal (kohl/surma) to a baby’s eyes believing it will protect the eyes, improve eyesight, or make the eyes look bigger.
But medically, none of these claims are proven.
In fact, applying kajal to babies can be risky because:
⚠️ it may irritate the eyes
⚠️ it can introduce infections
⚠️ it may block tear ducts
⚠️ some products may contain harmful substances such as lead
A baby’s eyes are extremely delicate and sensitive.
If you notice:
🚨 excessive tearing
🚨 redness
🚨 eye discharge
🚨 swelling
🚨 difficulty opening the eyes
Please seek medical attention immediately.
As parents, we all want the best for our children 💛
But when it comes to eye health, evidence-based care is always safer than age-old myths.
